Historic facts

  • Close finals have been a theme of the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships. 11 of the 21 finals have been won by either 0.01 or 0.02
  • The United States have won 13 of 21 world indoor 60m hurdles final, although three-time reigning champion Grant Holloway is absent this year
  • Only once before have two athletes run sub-7.40 in a final at the World Indoor Championships (2010 - 1. Dayron Robles 7.34, 2. Terrence Trammell 7.36)

Potential storylines and notes

  • Can the United States extend their record to 14 victories from 22 world indoor 60m hurdles finals?
  • Can Jakub Szymanski (POL) become the first Polish winner of this title? He was one of the favourites in 2025 but stumbled in the semifinals and didn’t make the final. "For a year I thought about revenge for the slip-up at the World Indoor Championships. The Americans are strong but they can be beaten, I plan to do it," he said.
  • Szymanski ran 7.37 in his last race at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin, the third fastest time by a European after Colin Jackson clocked 7.30 and 7.36 in 1994. This also means all three of the leading contenders have clocked 7.37 in 2026: Szymanski, Trey Cunningham (USA) and Dylan Beard (USA)
  • Could we see all three medalists run under 7.40 in the same final for the first time ever at the World Indoor Championships?
  • Can Enrique Llopis (ESP) finally win his first global medal? He has finished fourth at the 2024 World Indoor Championships, fourth at the 2024 Olympics and fourth at the 2025 World Championships…and he is ranked equal fourth on the entry-list based on season’s bests
  • Can Wilhem Belocian (FRA) win a medal on the same track on which he won the European indoor title in 2021?
  • Damian Czykier (POL) has been named co-captain of the Polish team alongside Natalia Bukowiecka
