Denmark’s only realistic medal hope for the 12th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain, Joachim B. Olsen, announced today that he is to withdraw from any Shot Put competition this indoor season.

The 30-year-old Olsen, who holds two bronze medals in his collection from the previous championships in 2004 and 2006, stated in a press release that he is by no means injured, in fact training has worked out very well this winter. His technique, however, just couldn’t quite follow up to that newly obtained physically strength of his.

"Joachim is right now stronger than his technique allows him", a spokesman said.

"For an athlete who won a medal at every major indoor championship from 2004-2007 the perspective of "only" participating in Valencia just isn’t good enough in terms of his own high expectations. That said, the Olympic bronze medallist from Athens 2004 does not try to hide that for a long time entirely has been focused on success at the Olympic Games in Beijing."

"His last competition was at the World Championships in Osaka where he in the final fouled three times. Now his return to the international scene could wait until spring."
