Equality, diversity and inclusion

We want to be representative of the communities of Glasgow and our international audience. We will engage with and listen to the communities’ needs, and within our sphere of influence we will aim to:

o Deliver an inclusive and accessible event to all

o Deliver an accessible volunteering programme

o Celebrate Glasgow’s diversity

Initiatives include:

Accessibility

To ensure each spectator can enjoy the Championships, we are working with Glasgow Disability Alliance to conduct an accessibility audit of the Arena. In December 2023, five members of Glasgow Disability Alliance completed a walkthrough of the Arena from the entrance to their seats and then contributed their feedback to us on what steps we can take to create a welcoming environment for all spectators. To ensure each spectator feels comfortable during the Championships, we will also be providing sensory packs.

Mental wellbeing

Working with community organisations and charities, we aim to raise awareness of mental health struggles and encourage the participation of sport to promote mental wellbeing. To reaffirm our commitment of this, we will be signatories of Scotland’s Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport.

As part of our volunteer training programme, volunteers will receive training by Scottish Action for Mental Health to encourage conversations around mental health and promote mental wellbeing. Volunteers will learn about the five ways to mental wellbeing and how to start conversations around mental health.

We will also be hosting SAMH’s Wellbeing on Wheels mental health support service in St. Enoch Square. Visitors can receive peer-led support and discuss their mental health challenges.

Career planning

We are also working with UK Sport and The Careers Office to support young adults in the area discover their future career. At the Friday morning session of the Championships, 20 students in the Glasgow-area will enjoy the competition and then learn about careers in sports and sporting events at a panel discussion.
