Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas produced the second world record of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 as she lowered her 60m hurdles mark to 7.65 in securing her first global title.
There might have been a third world record as Mondo Duplantis, having successfully defended his pole vault title despite a few wobbles with a clearance of 6.05m, had two out of three decent attempts at increasing his world record to 6.24m.
Femke Bol followed her world 400m record of the night before by anchoring the Netherlands to gold in the women&rsquo;s 4x400m.
Alexander Doom, the other individual 400m champion, completed the same double by anchoring Belgium to gold in the men&rsquo;s 4x400m, stealing the spotlight from world 100m and 200m champion Noah Lyles, who ran the third leg for the USA.
A new star emerged in the women&rsquo;s 800m in the form of Ethiopia&rsquo;s Tsige Duguma, who powered ahead of home favourite Jemma Reekie in the closing stages.
Meanwhile New Zealand were celebrating two golds as Geordie Beamish shocked everyone including himself to move from fifth to first in the final 20 metres of the men&rsquo;s 1500m final, adding to the high jump title secured in the morning session by his compatriot Hamish Kerr.
That elevated New Zealand to third in the final medals table behind the United States, top with six golds, and Belgium with three.
Charlton, who had spoken of the need to &ldquo;fix her start&rdquo; after qualifying only seventh in the morning heats in 7.93, got away superbly in the 60m hurdles final and was never seriously threatened as she finished clear of the French athlete who had beaten her to this title two years earlier in Belgrade, Cyrena Samba-Mayela.
Samba-Mayela took silver in 7.74, with a delighted Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland claiming bronze in 7.79.

Duplantis made relatively hard work of winning in the arena where, four years earlier, he had set the second of his five world records by clearing 6.18m. With Sam Kendricks of the United States in dashing form after two years in the wilderness, the defending champion teetered on the brink of an exit after two failures at 5.85m, but cleared at the third attempt before getting 5.95m second time round.
Kendricks, who had cleared first-time up to and including 5.90m, could go no further, claiming a comeback silver, with bronze going to Greece&rsquo;s Emmanouil Karalis of Greece on 5.85m.
In the men&rsquo;s 4x400m, Lyles took over the lead from Matthew Boling and handed it on to last leg runner Christopher Bailey after running a respectable split of 45.68.
Bailey, however, was unable to hold off the late challenge of Belgium&rsquo;s individual 400m champion Doom, who did to him what he had to Karsten Warholm the day before to complete a successful defence of the title in 3:02.54.
So it was a second silver for Lyles in Glasgow as the United States clocked 3:02.60, with the Netherlands taking bronze in a national record of 3:04.25.
Bol lived up to expectation as she anchored the Netherlands home in the women&rsquo;s 4x400m final, although she finished under severe pressure from Alexis Holmes, the US runner who anchored USA to victory after Bol collapsed at the close of the mixed 4x400m at the World Championships in Budapest.
There was no such lapse this time round by the athlete who had set a third consecutive individual world record the previous evening as she crossed the line in 3:25.07, with the United States taking silver in 3:25.34 and Britain, anchored by Jessie Knight, finishing third in a national record of 3:26.36.

The women&rsquo;s 800m final produced another medal for the host nation, although it was not quite the colour Reekie, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, had in mind.
A race which saw the field dawdling along proved too slow for Reekie&rsquo;s purposes, and while she went for broke at the end, she could not match the finishing speed of Ethiopia&rsquo;s latest middle distance arrival, Tsige Duguma, who charged ahead at the end to win by almost a full second in 2:01.90.
Bryce Hoppel floated like a butterfly through a boisterous, barging men&rsquo;s 800m final before stinging like a bee to secure gold as he outsprinted the labouring Belgian, Eliott Crestan, to cross in a world-leading 1:44.92.
Crestan, who had been involved in some bumping with the defending champion, Mariano Garcia of Spain, before taking the lead, faded to third as Sweden&rsquo;s Andreas Kramer caught him on the line for silver in 1:45.27. Crestan clocked 1:45.32.
Simon Ehammer of Switzerland, whose efforts to win the European indoor heptathlon title in Istanbul last year ended when he failed to record a long jump distance &ndash; despite having won world long jump bronze the year before &ndash; did everything possible to make up for that disappointment in Glasgow.
And in the end he was able to take his first global title &ndash; by the slim margin of 11 points &ndash; as he did just enough in the concluding 1000m.
Ehammer had reached the final discipline with a 140-point lead over Ken Mullings of The Bahamas, who was likely to find the 1000m a challenge.
The danger man for him was Norway&rsquo;s Sander Skotheim, and the latter did everything he could with victory in a four-second personal best of 2:33.23. Ehammer managed his own final surge to earn a personal best of 2:46.03 before collapsing exhausted on the track near the already prone figure of his rival.
Skotheim crawled over to his Swiss rival as they awaited the final adjudication &ndash; and it was the man in the red vest who was soon waving his arms in the air as he was confirmed the gold medallist with a world-leading national record of 6418.
The Norwegian earned silver with a national record of 6407, ahead of Estonia&rsquo;s Johannes Erm, who took bronze with a personal best of 6340.
Mullings blew out his cheeks at the realisation that he had must missed a medal with a total of 6242.
The women&rsquo;s long jump title marked a huge breakthrough for Tara Davis-Woodhall of the United States as she earned her first global title to go with the world outdoor silver she earned last summer with a fourth-round best of 7.07m.
She also produced three other jumps that were farther than that of the silver medallist, her compatriot Monae Nichols, who recorded 6.75m, with bronze going to Spain&rsquo;s Fatima Diame on 6.78m.
In the final event of the championships, Ethiopia&rsquo;s Freweyni Hailu secured the women&rsquo;s 1500m title in 4:01.46 from the US pair of Nikki Hiltz, who clocked a personal best of 4:02.32, and Emily Mackay, who took bronze in 4:02.69, also a personal best, with Britain&rsquo;s Georgia Bell fourth in 4:03.47.

Final session in Glasgow sees world record by Charlton, Doom and Bol at the double, and shock win for Beamish

The ebullient Tara Davis-Woodhall made a grand entrance into the arena for the women&rsquo;s long jump final on the closing night at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24, resplendent in now-trademark Stetson.
The world silver medallist likes to put on a show and, in swapping her hat for a first senior global crown, the 24-year-old US jumper duly obliged.
With a fourth round leap of 7.07m, she pulled decisively clear of the field, landing a 7.03m jump in the final round for good measure.
Only Davis-Woodhall, the world leader with 7.18m, has ventured beyond the magic seven-metre mark in 2024.
In the first three rounds, though, the woman based at the University of Texas in Austin was gripped in a see-saw battle with her US teammate Monae&rsquo; Nichols, a member of the Texas Tech University track team in Lubbock.
In the Scottish city that produced the band Texas, Nichols snatched the lead in the opening round, her 6.75m bettering Davis-Woodhall&rsquo;s first attempt by 2cm.
In round two, the favourite took the lead with 6.79m. Nichols proceeded to nudge back in front courtesy of a 6.83m jump in the third round.
Only twice in 14 previous head to heads had Nichols got the better of the former world U18 champion. She improved to 6.83m in round four but then Davis-Woodhall uncorked her 7.07m.
And that was that. Nichols was unable to respond, following up with 6.68m and a foul.
In a dramatic fifth round, Spaniard Fatima Diame &ndash; sixth in last year&rsquo;s world outdoor final &ndash; jumped 6.78m to edge the bronze by 1cm from Germany&rsquo;s 2021 European U18 bronze medallist Mikaelle Assani.
Fifth place went to European heptathlon bronze medallist Annik Kalin. Her best, 6.75m, also came in the penultimate round.&nbsp;
Just 1cm down in sixth was Serb Milica Gardasevic. European indoor silver medallist Larissa Iapichino of Italy &ndash; daughter of 1997 world indoor champion Fiona May &ndash; finished seventh with 6.69m from that productive round five.&nbsp;
The gold and the glory, however, belonged to Davis-Woodhall, the fourth US winner of the event after Dawn Burrell, Tianna Madison and Brittney Reese.
&ldquo;Every time someone says I'm a world champion, it really hits me,&rdquo; she reflected. &ldquo;I really did this. I am so happy, so grateful.
&ldquo;This medal is for my all-time hero, my grandmother. She has come a long, long way to get to the top.&nbsp;
&ldquo;She had her own business and now she is retired and happily enjoying my success. She will love this medal, so it's for her.&rdquo;

Davis-Woodhall secures world indoor long jump crown in style

The biggest turning points across the two days of heptathlon action at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 came in the jumping events.
For Ken Mullings, who came into the championships as the world leader, the pole vault proved his downfall and ultimately cost him a medal.
But for Simon Ehammer, one giant leap in the long jump &ndash; something of a bittersweet event for him in recent years &ndash; signalled the potential dawning of a new era for the Swiss all-rounder, who went on to claim gold in a national indoor record of 6418.
It was much more than just a two-man contest, though. In fact, going into the final discipline, four or five men had potential shots of challenging for a medal.
Ehammer took an early lead by winning the 60m in 6.73, but Mullings was close behind with an equal PB of 6.83. Estonia&rsquo;s Johannes Erm also started well, clocking a PB of 6.90. In the earlier heat, Norwegian duo Sander Skotheim (7.06) and Markus Rooth (7.08) crossed the line almost in unison behind USA&rsquo;s Harrison Williams (6.95), who later withdrew with an ankle sprain. Belgium&rsquo;s Jente Hauttekeete also ran well, clocking 7.06.
All eyes were on Ehammer in the long jump. It&rsquo;s an event in which he holds a personal best of 8.45m and a world bronze medal from 2022. But it&rsquo;s also the discipline that, within combined events copetition, signalled his early exit from the Hypo Meeting in 2021 and 2023 and the European Indoors in 2023, recording three fouls on all of those occasions.
So no one was more relieved than Ehammer when he nailed his first jump in Glasgow with 8.03m &ndash; even though it was just 1.4cm away from the take-off line &ndash; and he backed it up with an 8.00m effort on his third attempt, increasing his overall lead.
Sven Jansons of the Netherlands held on to second place overall thanks to a 7.79m PB. Mullings (7.69m) and Rooth (7.68m) also set PBs, while Erm (7.71m) and Skotheim (7.75m) performed well.
As expected, Makenson Gletty of France excelled in the shot put, launching it out to 16.95m to propel himself from eighth to fourth overall. Ehammer was further down the standings in the shot put (14.39m) but it was just enough to hold on to the lead from Erm, who threw a PB of 15.72m. Mullings maintained third place, thanks to a throw of 14.49m.
But Ehammer lost his lead at the end of the first day when Mullings cleared 2.16m in the high jump, elevating the Bahamian to the top of the leaderboard. Ehammer&rsquo;s 1.95m clearance was enough to keep him in second place, but Erm (2.01m) and Skotheim (2.13m) were just a few points behind.
Ehammer started the second day as he had done the first: with a victory. He was fastest of the field in the 60m hurdles, clocking 7.62, but Mullings&rsquo; strong run of 7.76 kept the Bahamian on top at the end of that discipline.
Skotheim (8.05) and Erm (8.21) switched places in the overall standings after the 60m hurdles with the Norwegian moving ahead of the tall Estonian. Gletty also had a good run in the sprint hurdles, his 7.82 run moving him up to fifth overall, just ahead of Rooth.
The pole vault &ndash; as is often the case in combined events &ndash; had a significant impact on the competition. Ehammer seized the opportunity to bank big points, soaring over 5.20m to once again top the field for the fourth discipline in the competition.
It meant that going into the 1000m, Ehammer had a comfortable 140-point lead over the field.
Mullings was 43cm off his recent PB in the pole vault, making do with a 4.60m clearance. Skotheim and Erm both cleared 5.10m to narrow the gap on Mullings and consolidate their positions in third and fourth respectively. Their superiority at 1000m meant that Mullings&rsquo; medal hopes were essentially over.
If anything, they still had hopes of gaining enough distance on Ehammer in the final event to challenge for gold.
The pole vault marked the end of the competition for Rooth, who picked up an injury in that discipline.
His teammate Skotheim took out the running in the 1000m with Erm close behind. The duo soon built up a significant lead over the rest of the field before Skotheim kicked ahead to win in 2:33.23. Erm crossed the line second in 2:36.15, and further behind Ehammer did his best to ensure the lead duo weren&rsquo;t too far ahead, finishing in a PB of 2:46.03.
Thankfully for Ehammer, that proved to be enough. He was rewarded with the gold medal and a national indoor record of 6418, moving him to ninth on the world indoor all-time list.
Skotheim also set a national record in second place, scoring 6407, while Erm took bronze in a PB of 6340. Mullings, who clocked a PB of 2:49.35 in the 1000m, eventually finished fourth overall &ndash; the highest ever finish by a Bahamian athlete in a global championships combined events competition.
Gletty finished fifth in 6187, while Vilem Strasky (6080) and Jansons (6076) recorded PBs for sixth and seventh.
&ldquo;It feels amazing and unbelievable,&rdquo; said Ehammer. &ldquo;It was a tough, tough competition. I pushed and pushed and pushed (in the 1000m) because I so wanted to win this gold. Yes, I do the long jump as well, but this proves I am a multi-eventer. This is where I belong. It's the perfect start to the season for 2024.&rdquo;

The biggest turning points across the two days of heptathlon action at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 came in the jumping events.

Ehammer banishes demons to take heptathlon gold in Glasgow

For a few fleeting moments, as the two leading runners on the anchor leg of the women&rsquo;s 4x400m rounded into the home straight, a repeat of last year&rsquo;s World Athletics Championships mixed relay final looked to be a possibility.
Alexis Holmes had closed around the bend and was within striking distance of Femke Bol. In the Budapest contest the woman from the US snatched gold as her despairing Dutch rival crashed to the track just short of the line.
On this occasion, however, Bol was playing it safe.&nbsp;
The world 400m hurdles champion had smashed her own world indoor record en route to victory in the flat 400m final the previous day at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24, and &ndash; with team gold in mind &ndash; she was determined to remain in control.
Only in the final 10 metres did Bol shift into top gear, putting 0.27 between herself and Holmes.&nbsp;
The Dutch runner took world indoor gold in 3:25.07, a world lead, matching the women&rsquo;s 4x400m gold they claimed with a stunning anchor leg by Bol a week after the mixed relay despair in Budapest.
They led from start to finish on Sunday (3).
Lieke Klaver, silver medallist behind Bol&rsquo;s blistering 49.17 in the individual 400m final, built a seven metre lead on the opening leg, and Cathelijn Peeters and Lisanne De Witte made sure the Netherlands remained in pole position.
Klaver&rsquo;s split of 50.26 was the fastest. Bol could afford to be marginally slower than Holmes on the final leg.
&ldquo;I feel so tired,&rdquo; confessed the double Dutch world indoor gold medallist, &ldquo;but the championships are like this.&nbsp;
&ldquo;These girls give me so much energy to run, especially if they give me the baton in first place. It&rsquo;s such great team. You cannot let them down.&rdquo;
Holmes and her US teammates &ndash; Quanera Hayes, Talitha Diggs and Bailey Lear &ndash; took silver in 3:25.34.&nbsp;
The British quartet, with twins Laivai and Lina Nielsen on the first two legs, backed up by Ama Pipi and Jessie Knight, claimed bronze in 3:26.36, a national record.
Then came Belgium &ndash; Naomi van den Broek, Helena Ponette, Camille Laus and Cynthia Bolingo &ndash; in 3:28.05, their second national record of the day.&nbsp;
Ireland were the only other finishers, fifth in 3:28.05. Jamaica, winners ahead of the Dutch in Belgrade two years ago, were in the medal hunt until Charokee Young lost hold of the baton on the third leg.
There was an Irish record of 3:28.45 in the morning&rsquo;s semifinals, courtesy of Phil Healy, Sophie Becker, Roisin Harrison and Sharlene Mawdsley.
Portugal bowed out with a national record 3:31.93, their quartet featuring Fatoumata Binta Diallo, Carina Vanessa, Catia Azevedo and Vera Barbosa.

Bol anchors Netherlands to 4x400m glory in Glasgow

Charlton, who had spoken of the need to &ldquo;fix her start&rdquo; after qualifying only seventh in the morning heats in 7.93, got away superbly and was never seriously threatened as she finished clear of the French athlete who had beaten her to this title two years earlier in Belgrade, Cyrena Samba-Mayela.

&ldquo;This means a whole lot because I have set myself goals,&rdquo; Charlton said. &ldquo;I have not changed my technique much &ndash; just a few tweaks &ndash; but I have been working hard off the track, making sure my mental health is good and working with a sports psychologist.
&ldquo;Just taking care of myself. Indoors really plays well to my skillset too.&rdquo;
Masai Russell of the United States was fourth in 7.81, with fifth place going to Ireland&rsquo;s Sarah Lavin, who clocked 7.91 having twice equalled her personal best of 7.90 in heats and semi-finals.
Unlike the men&rsquo;s 60m hurdles, where the dynamic was essentially about how fast Grant Holloway was going to run and who was going to follow him home, this event appeared more open after Charlton&rsquo;s muted opening effort.
But her semi-final victory in 7.72 demonstrated that that task of &ldquo;fixing the start&rdquo; had been accomplished as she got out of her blocks smartly and never looked seriously threatened, with Skrzysowska second in 7.78, equalling her personal best.
Victory in the next heat by Samba-Mayela demonstrated that this was a title that would not be given up easily as she won in a national record of 7.73 after a superb start.
But when it came to the final, she had no answer to the power and precision of her Bahamian rival.
Misfortune had arrived for one of the main contenders in the last semi-final, as Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, twice European indoor champion, smashed into the first hurdle and never recovered.

Charlton lowers world 60m hurdles record to 7.65 for global gold in Glasgow

Relays powerhouse USA played a bold strategy by drafting in multiple world champion Noah Lyles for the men&rsquo;s 4x400m in a bid to regain gold in a discipline they haven&rsquo;t won since 2016, but ultimately it wasn&rsquo;t enough to hold off the challenge of individual 400m champion Alexander Doom.
The Belgian used the same tactics he adopted in yesterday&rsquo;s 400m final, sitting on the shoulder of the leader &ndash; on this occasion US anchor runner Christopher Bailey &ndash; and then striking off the final bend to stride to victory in a world-leading 3:02.54, successfully defending Belgium&rsquo;s title.
In doing so, Doom became the first man to win gold in the 400m and 4x400m at the same World Indoor Championships.
USA held on for silver, finishing just 0.06 behind, while the Netherlands took bronze, replicating their finish from Belgrade two years ago.
The USA set out with clear intent with Jacory Patterson taking an early lead, holding off Liemarvin Bonevacia of the Netherlands. By the time Patterson approached the changeover, Jonathan Sacoor of Belgium had moved past Bonevacia into second place.
The positions remained the same between those three nations for the next few laps, with Matthew Boling of the USA keeping Belgium&rsquo;s Dylan Borlee and Ramsey Angela of the Netherlands at bay on leg two.
It was then down to Lyles to maintain USA&rsquo;s lead. Lyles, the 60m silver medallist on Friday night, has only contested two 4x400m races as a senior athlete, but he ran a smart leg and ensured he handed over the baton still with a lead over Belgium&rsquo;s Christian Iguacel and Terrence Agard of the Netherlands.
USA&rsquo;s Christopher Bailey took up the running for USA on the anchor leg, but the imposing Doom was close behind with Tony van Diepen of the Netherlands also in contention in third.
Bailey held his lead for most of his leg, but the longer Doom stayed on the US runner&rsquo;s shoulder, the more inevitable the outcome seemed. Sure enough, Doom came through in the closing stages to charge through the line in 3:02.54 &ndash; just 0.03 shy of their national indoor record.
USA took silver in 3:02.60, while the Netherlands claimed bronze in a Dutch indoor record of 3:04.25.
Kenya placed fourth in 3:06.71, improving on the African indoor record they set earlier today. Poland placed fifth in 3:08.00 while Portugal crossed the line in sixth place but was later disqualified.
&ldquo;The guys put me in the perfect position,&rdquo; said Doom, who clocked the fastest split of the race (44.88). &ldquo;I knew there was something possible at the end. I felt a little bit tired after the last few days. But I had a strong kick at the end, so I am really happy.&rdquo;

USA's bold strategy wasn't enough to hold off the challenge of individual 400m champion Alexander Doom

Doom delivers again to anchor Belgium to 4x400m gold in Glasgow

A day after Julien Alfred became the first global medallist, and champion, from St Lucia in the women&rsquo;s 60m, Thea LaFond also made athletics history at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 as she achieved exactly the same feat for the Caribbean island of Dominica in the women&rsquo;s triple jump.
And there was another historic flourish at the other end of the last day&rsquo;s morning session as New Zealand&rsquo;s Hamish Kerr took the men&rsquo;s high jump title to round off an Oceania double following the success of Nicola Olyslagers of Australia in the women&rsquo;s high jump.
After winning with a clearance of 2.31m, Kerr &ndash; Commonwealth champion and a world indoor bronze medallist two years ago in Belgrade &ndash; added two centimetres to his personal best in clearing a world-leading 2.36m, much to the appreciation of a Glasgow Arena audience that had stayed seated for this final and the heptathlon pole vault.
LaFond&rsquo;s landmark achievement came thanks to a second-round effort of 15.01m, comfortably the best recorded in the world so far this year and making her the first winner of this title since 2014 who was not Yulimar Rojas.
The absence of the three-times winner from Venezuela offered the chance for another triple jumper to take centre stage and LaFond stepped up to claim a first global title for the Caribbean island of her birth, indoors or out, and the first global medal in a women&rsquo;s event.
The 29-year-old from Roseau also deserved a medal for composure &ndash; were it a championship event &ndash; as she sat out the next three rounds following an effort that improved her personal best by 11cm and watched the rest of the field strive, fruitlessly, to better it.
Cuba&rsquo;s Leyanis Perez Hernandez came closest, jumping a season&rsquo;s best of 14.90m her silver, two centimetres better than the world lead she had established before these championships. Spain&rsquo;s Ana Peleteiro-Compaore claimed bronze with a season&rsquo;s best of 14.75m.
Thus two of the smallest nations in the world by population (Dominica: 74,412 and St Lucia: 179,651) have won gold medals at these championships.
Kerr had looked as cool as Lafond throughout his high jump contest as he earned the title with five successive first-time clearances.
Shelby McEwen of the United States, who had arrived for these championships as joint leader of the season&rsquo;s world list on 2.33m with defending champion Woo Sanghyeok, claimed a first global medal as he took silver ahead of the South Korean on countback after both had cleared a best of 2.28m.
In celebration of his achievement, the 27-year-old from Mississippi treated his appreciative audience to an accomplished backflip on the landing mat.

Simon Ehammer of Switzerland, whose efforts to win the European indoor heptathlon title in Istanbul last year ended when he failed to record a long jump distance &ndash; despite having won world long jump bronze the year before &ndash; is doing everything possible to make up for that disappointment in Glasgow.
Trailing the overnight leader Ken Mullings by 79 points, he lived up to expectations in the opening event of the second day, the 60m hurdles, producing the fastest time of 7.62 &ndash; close to his PB of 7.55.
That narrowed the gap, but perhaps not as much as he anticipated as Mullings produced his fourth personal best of this competition, equalling his previous fastest time of 7.76, which meant the gap remained 42 points going into the vertical marathon that is the combined events men&rsquo;s pole vault.
Once again, however, Ehammer rose to the occasion, winning the event with a clearance of 5.20m, one centimetre below his personal best, as Mullings, with a best of 5.03m, went out on 4.60m.
Meanwhile the best vaulter on paper, Norway&rsquo;s Sander Skotheim, with a best of 5.35m, finished second on 5.10m.
Ehammer, not a super strong runner, goes through to tonight&rsquo;s concluding 1000m with a lead over Mullings, who is also likely to find the finale a challenge.
Skotheim is a strong runner, but the Swiss athlete currently holds a lead over him of 153 points. It is going to make compelling watching&hellip;
Poland&rsquo;s European champion Pia Skrzyszowska looked ready to challenge for a global medal after qualifying fastest with 7.80 for tonight&rsquo;s 60m hurdles semi-finals.
Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas, co-owner of the world indoor record of 7.67, eased through her heat in 7.93, seventh fastest overall.
France&rsquo;s defending champion Cyrena Samba-Mayela also looked in good shape as she clocked the second fastest time of 7.81, with Nadine Visser of the Netherlands qualifying third fastest in 7.85.
Masai Russell of the United States and Britain&rsquo;s Cindy Sember, equalling her personal best, clocked 7.89, while Sarah Lavin went through as sixth fastest in a personal best of 7.90, with European indoor champion Reeta Hurske a step behind her in a season&rsquo;s best of 7.97.
The timely last-leg intervention of the previous night&rsquo;s world record breaker, Femke Bol, assured the Netherlands of victory in their women&rsquo;s 4x400m heat in a time of 3:27.70. They will be able to include the individual silver medallist, Lieke Klaver, for tonight&rsquo;s final.
But the fastest qualifying time came from a jubilant home quartet of Lina Nielsen &ndash; whose sister Laviai, the British team captain, missed an individual medal by one place last night &ndash; Ama Pipi, Hannah Kelly and Jessie Knight as they set a national indoor record of 3:26.40.
Jamaica were second in 3:27.35, and the Czech Republic third in 3:28.57.
Ireland earned the sixth and final qualifying place with a national record of 3:28.45, with Sharlene Mawdsley clocking the fastest overall split from either heat of 50.48.
The United States, seeking to win a first men&rsquo;s 4x400m world indoor gold since 2016, qualified fastest for tonight&rsquo;s final in 3:05.56 ahead of Belgium, who clocked 3:06.27, and the Netherlands, who won their semi-final in 3:06.47.
There was some doubt about the latter result, as an accidental collision shortly after the last changeover saw the baton fly out of the hand of the Czech Republic&rsquo;s Matej Krsek after contact from the Dutch last leg runner Ramsey Angela. But it stood.

Thea LaFond made athletics history for the Caribbean island of Dominica in the women’s triple jump

Historic victories for LaFond and Kerr on final morning session in Glasgow

At the last World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Hamish Kerr had to settle for joint high jump bronze with Gianmarco Tamberi as Woo Sanghyeok struck gold for Korea.
Two years on, at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24, the New Zealander stood a class apart at the very top of the global tree.
In his national uniform, the 27-year-old from Dunedin was as formidable a force as the New Zealand All Blacks rugby union team, who have yet to lose on Scottish soil in 120 years.
With five first-time clearances, all the way from 2.15m to 2.31m, Kerr had the gold medal virtually in the bag before his first failure.
That came at 2.34m and, after Shelby McEwen of the US fluffed his one shot at that height, the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion soared to new heights to place a considerable cherry on top of his maiden global gold.
With McEwen confirmed in second and Woo third, both courtesy of 2.28m clearances, Kerr consulted Robbie Grabarz, the 2012 Olympic silver medallist and 2016 world indoor runner-up from Great Britain who has now moved into coaching, and chose to attack 2.36m.
That was not only 3cm beyond the world lead that McEwen jointly shared, and 2cm above the national record Kerr set last year, but the exact height of the Oceania record established by Tim Forsyth back in 1997 and equalled by fellow Australian Brandon Starc in 2018.
The new world indoor champion clipped the bar with the first of his two chances but arced over with his second, clasping his hands to his face in astonishment as he hit the landing bed.
&ldquo;It's still sinking in,&rdquo; confessed Kerr. &ldquo;It gives me goose bumps to think that I'm a world champion.
&ldquo;We put all these plans in place &ndash; set all these big goals &ndash; months in advance, sitting around a meeting table in a little room in New Zealand.&nbsp;
&ldquo;To actually come over here and achieve them&hellip; I mean, dream big and achieve, right? That's what I've done today.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I knew I was in good form. Each time I cleared a height, everyone else started missing the bars. I had to keep going to the bathroom, just to sit there and get my bearings, because I couldn't watch them out in the middle going for their jumps.&nbsp;
&ldquo;To come out the other side then get that record with a last jump is unbelievable.&rdquo;
Woo went into the competition looking to join elevated company, Javier Sotomayor and Stefan Holm having been the only back-to-back winners of the event in world indoor history, but looked ill at ease, needing three shots to clear 2.24m.
Six others were still in contention as the stakes were raised to 2.28m.
Kerr was the only one to nail it first time. Woo and then McEwen succeeded on their second attempts, making it a battle of the continents &ndash; Oceania, North America and Asia &ndash; to decide the medal order.
Ukrainian Oleh Doroshchuk, Jan Stefela of the Czech Republic, McEwen&rsquo;s US teammate Vernon Turner and Pole Norbert Kobielski all exited, finishing fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively with their 2.24m clearances.
At 2.31m, Kerr maintained his clear card. Woo drew two blanks. McEwen knocked off the bar twice, then chose to pass for a one-stop shop in the last chance saloon at 2.34m.
It was not to be for him. For the peerless Kerr, it was different.
&ldquo;It's strange,&rdquo; he pondered, draped in a New Zealand flag. &ldquo;I have mixed emotions now because there will be a target on my back.
&ldquo;I know the guys will be coming for me as they come into form outdoors, ready for Olympic year. But to be jumping this high early season has got to be good.&rdquo;

New Zealander Hamish Kerr stood a class apart at the very top of the global tree

Kerr hits the heights to win first global gold in Glasgow

With the leap of her life, Thea LaFond soared to her first global medal. And it was a golden moment for the triple jumper from the tiny Caribbean island of Dominica during the penultimate session of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 on Sunday (3).
After LaFond surpassed 15 metres for the first time, recording 15.01m in the second round of the women&rsquo;s triple jump final in the Glasgow Arena, the emotion was clear.
Leaving the sand pit, she put her hands on her knees, then on her hips, waiting for the distance to be confirmed. As her national record figures flashed up on the board, she went over to the stands and crouched down, letting the moment sink in.
Deciding to pass the next three rounds, the 29-year-old patiently waited to see if any of her rivals could challenge the mark. While Cuba&rsquo;s Leyanis Perez Hernandez improved to 14.90m in round four and Spain&rsquo;s Ana Peleteiro-Compaore to 14.75m in round five, LaFond&rsquo;s 15 metres stood safe at the top.
Just after Peleteiro-Compaore took that fifth jump, LaFond started to prepare for a final attempt. She didn&rsquo;t need to take it. As the competition came to a close, and with only the medallists left to take their last attempts, the order of the podium was confirmed when Peleteiro-Compaore managed 14.41m and Perez Hernandez recorded a foul.
As the red flag appeared next to that attempt, LaFond jumped up and ran to the stands to grab her national flag. Draping it over her head, she passed her final jump and celebrated becoming a global champion.
&ldquo;This feels absolutely surreal,&rdquo; she said in her trackside interview in front of a supportive Glasgow crowd. &ldquo;I am the only athlete here from my country, so to be able to come out and get the best possible outcome and put this little island on the map is a privilege. This one is for my people. I don&rsquo;t even know what to say any more!&rdquo;
It was a historic occasion for Dominica, as LaFond became her nation&rsquo;s first female global medallist and first global champion in athletics. A two-time world fifth-place finisher, in Oregon in 2022 and Budapest in 2023 when she set her previous national record of 14.90m, LaFond finished fourth at the last edition of the World Indoor Championships, jumping 14.53m in Belgrade in 2022.
In her trackside interview after her win, LaFond highlighted Dominica&rsquo;s population of 70,000 people &ndash; around a tenth of the population of Glasgow.
LaFond was born in Roseau, the capital of Dominica, and competed in a range of athletics events growing up in the US, contesting both the high jump and the triple jump at the 2011 World U18 Championships in Lille.
She finished 11th in the triple jump at the following year&rsquo;s World U20 Championships in Barcelona and went on to contest the triple jump, long jump, high jump, hurdles and multi events during a varied NCAA career.
After a conversation with 1992 Olympic 110m hurdles bronze medallist Jack Pierce, LaFond decided to focus on the triple jump. The rest, as they say, is history.
Last year Perez Hernandez claimed world bronze in Budapest &ndash; in a competition won by world record-holder Yulimar Rojas who decided not to compete in Glasgow &ndash; and she doubled that global medal haul on Sunday, backing up her best of 14.90m with three other jumps of 14.58m or farther.
It was a third global bronze medal-winning performance for Peleteiro-Compaore, who finished third at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham six years ago and matched that place at the Olympics in Tokyo.
USA&rsquo;s Keturah Orji and Jasmine Moore finished behind them in fourth and fifth, Orji with a best of 14.36m and Moore leaping 14.15m.

LaFond finds 15 metres to win historic triple jump title in Glasgow

Grant Holloway of the United States duly earned his 76th consecutive win over 60m hurdles in the Glasgow Arena on Saturday (2) &ndash; and it meant he was, for a second consecutive time, world indoor champion.
The three-time world champion and Olympic silver medallist equalled his championship record of 7.29 with another trademark performance &ndash; perfect start, superb transition, powerful finish &ndash; at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24. The race was his inside the first two strides.
Silver went to a jubilant Lorenzo Simonelli &ndash; the only non-automatic qualifier - in an Italian record of 7.43, with France&rsquo;s Just Kwaou-Mathey earning bronze in 7.47.
Jakub Szymanski had set a Polish record of 7.46 in the semifinal, but could not quite replicate that level in the final as he clocked 7.53, finishing fifth behind Enrique Llopis of Spain by thousandths of a second.
Holloway&rsquo;s compatriot Trey Cunningham also clocked 7.53, taking sixth place.
&ldquo;This morning was little bit of a shake-up but to come out of here and go sub-7.3 is a good time,&rdquo; Holloway said.
&ldquo;I'm happy to defend my title and let's see how the rest of the year plays out - I'm looking forward to it. I had good fun out here and achieved what I wanted to. It wasn't a record but that's OK.
&ldquo;I know I'm in good shape for the summer. It was my fifth world title so I'm happy to keep racking them up. I'm in great shape so I'll be ready to hit it again.&rdquo;
Simonelli commented: &ldquo;I never imagined I'd get this result. I came here wanting to get to the final but to come out with a silver medal is crazy. It was a fight for second place as Holloway is impossible to beat.&rdquo;&nbsp;
The two-time champion&rsquo;s win streak goes back to a second place as a 16-year-old in a high school meeting in 2014.
His winning time matched the world record he set in 2021, although he has since lowered that to 7.27.
Another world record was the only thing missing from this typically exuberant performance.
Holloway had laid down another marker earlier in winning his semifinal in 7.32, the fastest 60m hurdles time seen in Britain &ndash; before the final.
But you felt he still had a sense of the &ldquo;one that got away&rdquo; after the field had been recalled for a clear false start which led to the disqualification of China&rsquo;s Zhu Shenglong. He had stomped back to his blocks with his shoulders shrugging and arms out.
The opening semifinal had also seen a disqualification as Spain&rsquo;s Asier Martinez was penalised, although he ran the race under protest and looked as if he had finished first.
The victory went to Milan Trajkovic of Cyprus in 7.53, with Michael Obasuyi equalling the Belgian record of 7.54 and Kwaou-Mathey exactly matching that time.
Cunningham was the winner of the other semifinal in 7.49.

Holloway matches championship record to retain world 60m hurdles title

After three world leads since the turn of the year, Molly Caudery made sure she finished on top of the global pile when it mattered most, rising magnificently to the occasion of the women&rsquo;s pole vault final on a night of high drama at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.
While the longer established leading lights of the event faltered around her, the 23-year-old Briton kept her cool, emerging victorious from what came down to a test of nerve and technique between herself and New Zealander Eliza McCartney, alongside whom she trains at Loughborough University under the direction of the same coach, Scott Simpson.
After Olympic and double world champion Katie Moon of the US registered three failures at 4.80m, leaving her with the bronze medal, only Caudery and McCartney were left standing.
Both had fought to overcome adversity to get into that position. Caudery almost severed an index finger in an accident in her local gym and underwent the last of three operations last year, before making her mark with a fifth-place finish at the World Championships in Budapest.
Before the bar had been raised to 4.80m, she was lying joint second with Moon, both having needed two attempts to negotiate 4.75m.
McCartney was in pole position with a first time success at that height.
After battling achilles and calf injuries for the best part of three years, the 2016 Olympic bronze medallist returned to form with a 4.84m world lead in Lievin on 10 February, a mark subsequently eclipsed by Caudery &ndash; the early-season leader &ndash; with 4.85m in Birmingham and 4.86m in Rouen.
At 4.80m in Glasgow, though, McCartney needed all three attempts, Caudery just two.
McCartney gambled at 4.85m, electing to pass after failing with her first two attempts. Caudery had a nervous wait after drawing three blanks but McCartney was unable to clear the bar with either of her two shots at 4.90m.
All of which left the crowd celebrating a second British gold of the night, in the wake of Josh Kerr&rsquo;s 3000m victory.
It was Britain&rsquo;s first world indoor success in a field event since Yamile Aldama&rsquo;s triple jump gold in Istanbul in 2012. The only other victories all came in the same event, courtesy of Ashia Hansen in 1999 and 2003 and Phillips Idowu in 2008.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m living my dream,&rdquo; said Caudery. &ldquo;I honestly can&rsquo;t believe I&rsquo;m a world champion in an Olympic year.
&ldquo;To go from injury to world level was hard enough. To be a world indoor champion is astonishing to me. It's not sunk in.
&ldquo;It was so, so special. I'm loving absolutely every single moment of this journey.&rdquo;
McCartney was gracious in defeat, happy to have made the podium after placing fifth in 2016 and fourth in 2018.
&ldquo;It warms my heart for Molly to win in front of a phenomenal home crowd,&rdquo; said the Aucklander.
&ldquo;It was an amazing competition and I'm just so happy to have been part of it. Women's pole vault is so strong just now.
&ldquo;It's wild to win a medal as I haven't done that in a very long time.&rdquo;
The first major casualty came before the competition started. Joint third on the world list with a Canadian record of 4.83m, Commonwealth champion Alysha Newman suffered an injury in warm-up &ndash; an unhappy return to the city in which she made her mark with Commonwealth bronze ten years ago.
The second was Wilma Murto, the European champion and world bronze medallist. Hampered by a foot injury, the Finn needed three attempts to scrape over 4.55m and then retired hurt.
Then, at 4.65m, Margot Chevrier of France suffered a cruel injury with her first attempt.
The 24-year-old got stuck on her pole in mid-air before crashing down into the take-off pit.
In obvious pain, she received oxygen before being carefully lifted on to a medical cart and departing the arena to sympathetic applause.
Chevrier and Murto finished joint eighth with 4.55m. Behind the medal winning trio, Switzerland&rsquo;s 2021 European indoor champion Angelica Moser took a fine fourth placing, equalling her PB with 4.75m.
Then came two-time champion Sandi Morris of the US, who cleared 4.65m first time, and European indoor bronze medallist Amalie Svabikova of the Czech Republic, who nailed the same height at the third time of asking.

Caudery claims pole vault gold for host nation in Glasgow

Hugues Fabrice Zango is no stranger to making history for his nation and following his performance at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24&nbsp;on Saturday (2), the triple jump star now has another honour to add to the list.
The 30-year-old became Burkina Faso&rsquo;s first ever Olympic medallist in Tokyo. His bronze in Doha in 2019 was the nation&rsquo;s first World Athletics Championships medal and he upgraded it to silver in Oregon in 2022 and then gold in Budapest last August.
Now he has a first world indoor medal too &ndash; a gold after leaping 17.53m to surpass a strong opening effort by Algeria&rsquo;s Yasser Mohammed Triki.
That first round 17.35m by Triki ended up being his only valid attempt of the competition and he passed his final three attempts.
After recording 16.69m from his own first attempt, Zango responded with 17.33m in the second round &ndash; just 2cm off Triki&rsquo;s leading mark.
The top marks stayed the same until the fifth round, when Zango&rsquo;s reaction after his leap hinted at how good it was. He jumped back up and started celebrating before &lsquo;17.53m&rsquo; flashed up on the board and he moved into the lead.
Triki waited to see if anyone else could beat his mark and while Portugal&rsquo;s Tiago Pereira became the third athlete to surpass 17 metres in the contest when he leapt 17.08m in the final round, the Olympic and world fifth-place finisher held on to silver.
Pereira&rsquo;s final flourish secured him the bronze &ndash; a first global medal &ndash; with the second-best performance of his career behind the 17.11m PB he set outdoors in 2021.
Fang Yaoqing&rsquo;s 16.93m from the second round had put him among the medals until Pereira pushed him down a place and he finished fourth.
&ldquo;It's never easy to win a championship,&rdquo; said Zango. &ldquo;When I came here, I thought I might be able to do something but my season wasn't what I wanted. Tonight, I tried and tried and on my fifth jump it finally happened - doing 17.53m is really crazy.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I'm really happy for Burkina Faso, for Africa, because in the final we have two Africans on the podium.&rdquo;
For Pereira, his medal win was additional justification for his event switch in 2017.
&ldquo;I feel amazing. My first medal in a major, with a PB &ndash; finally my work is starting to pay off,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;In 2017, when I had been doing the high jump for 12 years and I decided to switch to the triple jump, people said I was crazy. But to jump 17 metres and finally win a medal here is great.&rdquo;
