Budapest will host the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 from 19-27 August 2023, with thousands of athletes and spectators from all over the world expected to come to Hungary. Such a large event cannot happen without the help of volunteers.

Volunteers applying for the World Championships are asked to commit to a minimum of 7 days (shifts) during the entire event and associated side programs (e.g.: Congress), one shift means 8 hours contribution per day. We also welcome applications from such enthusiastic volunteers who are able to help through the entire event - such contribution will be most appreciated with securing appropriate rest days for those undertaking this option.

To apply, volunteers must be 16 years old before the event starts (19 August 2023). In the case of underage volunteers, a valid application also requires the consent of a parent/legal guardian (when filling in the profile).

All volunteers must have valid individual health insurance during their volunteer period. For Hungarian and European citizens this requirement is covered by social security, third country volunteers will be asked to provide proof of the relevant health insurance during the volunteer 'validation' process prior to the accreditation card.

You can apply as volunteer in the Volunteer Management System (VMS) with a valid registration by creating a volunteer profile. You can also find out about other volunteering opportunities related to the World Championship on the VMS page later on. Early 2023, during the months leading up to the event, you will be able to apply here for functional areas where you would like to volunteer for the World Championship and its accompanying events. You will also be able to find all the important information and further good-to-know information about volunteering on the VMS website.

For our volunteers, we also offer group application. You can volunteer in groups of up to 3 people, so you can volunteer together, if you wish, with your family or friends at the event.

There will also be opportunities to volunteer at the test competitions and other side-events of the World Athletics Championships You can find more information about these opportunities on the VMS website, and we will notify you by email about these opportunities!

The WCH Budapest 23 Volunteer Program will provide one meal per shift and water to drink during the shifts for the volunteers.

All volunteers will receive a uniform, which they must wear at all times during the event when they take part as a volunteer. Volunteers may keep the uniform after the event. We will also prepare our volunteers surprises and small gifts.

All volunteers will receive a photo accreditation card which will give them access to carry out their tasks (the card can also be kept after the event).
