TBS Television, Inc. commissioned to development of a "widely loved mascot" production has begun as the media partner and principal supporter for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, which will be held in September 2025.
The World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 Foundation (World Athletics Foundation) and TBS Television will work together to develop an exciting and endearing mascot that will create a sense of anticipation for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.
The other day, TBS Television's designers served as a lecturer and held a mascot development workshop at an elementary school in Tokyo in order to incorporate the free thinking of children who will lead the next.
Elementary school students came up with designs and concepts for the mascot, talk to the designer, and expressed their ideas through illustrations and text, ultimately completing their own unique mascots.

From now on, the official mascot for the championship will be developed based on the children's ideas, with plans to have it completed by the end of the year.
A video showcasing the workshop and production process will also be released at the unveiling. Additionally, A public vote on the name of the completed mascot is also planned.
The aim is to create a mascot character that will be widely loved and evoke a sense of excitement and familiarity for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, with the participation of many people.

The&nbsp;<a href="https://assets.aws.worldathletics.org/document/66aa7a0b5e6a655f85e64218.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">World Athletics Championships Tokyo25&nbsp;(WCH Tokyo 25) timetable</a>, revealed today, features 14 action-packed stadium sessions to be held from 13-21 September 2025 at the Japan National stadium in Tokyo.
The WCH Tokyo 25 schedule spreads the 49 disciplines (24 women's events, 24 men's events and one mixed event) across nine days of thrilling competition. The six road events will be spread across four separate days and will all be held in the morning.
Day1 begins with the women's 35km and men's 35km race walk starting simultaneously at 8am JST. Day 9, ends with the men's 4x100m relay finals as an exciting &nbsp;grand finale.
Features of the WCH Tokyo 25 Timetable:
Five finals will be held on Day1, with multiple finals taking place each day of the Championships which will crown the world's best.
Morning sessions will be held on Saturdays, Sundays and national holiday, and the total number of sessions has been reduced compared to past World Championships, so that more events can be held in each session, ensuring constant action across the entirety of the championships.
Disciplines with high interest and medal expectations in Japan will be mainly held during evening sessions to maximise audience interest and excitement both in the stadium and across Japan.
Road races will take place in the morning on Saturdays, Sunday and national holiday &ndash; with start and finish lines for marathon races in the National Stadium.

TOKYO GAS announced as WCH Tokyo 25 Supporter

The Local Organising Committee of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 (LOC) interviewed junior athletes at Josai Junior and Senior High School (Toshima City, Tokyo) and Toho Junior and Senior High School (Kunitachi City, Tokyo) to explore ideas for the design of medals to be awarded at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 (WCH Tokyo 25).
The two Tokyo schools were selected from among the alma maters of young world-class athletes, the former being the alma mater of sprinters Abdul Hakim Sanibrown and YukiJoseph Nakajima and the latter that of sprinter Ken Toyoda. All three represented Japan at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Toyoda competing in the 400m men&rsquo;s hurdles. The interview session was held at Josai Junior and Senior High School on 22 July 2024.
Ryo Nakagawa, the brand director who designed the WCH Tokyo 25 logo, is also designing the medals for the competition. He talked to the students about the medals awarded at previous international competitions hosted by World Athletics as well as the Japan Championships, Olympic Games and other sporting events, explaining their respective concepts and the aspirations embodied in them. The latest medal for the Japan Championships in Athletics, for example, featured a lion, the king of the jungle, on the front and Mt. Fuji rising above a sea of clouds on the reverse. The design aimed to symbolise the strength, dignity and style of the winners, as well as their warmth, along with the hope that they would strive for even higher levels of achievement.

He then asked the students to write down what they were looking forward to with regard to WCH Tokyo 25, the aspirations they would like to embody in the medals, and what kind of medal would make them happy if they were to receive one. Along with their ideas, the junior athletes put down their messages for participating athletes.

&ldquo;I was impressed to learn that each medal was designed to embody distinctive ideas,&rdquo; said Josai sprinter Tenshin Yamazaki. &ldquo;I still can&rsquo;t quite believe that the World Athletics Championships will be hosted on our home soil.&rdquo; He added that he &ldquo;looks forward to having the world&rsquo;s top-tier athletes gather in Tokyo&rdquo; and said that he wrote his message hoping that &ldquo;the athletes can relax and do their best without feeling pressured.&rdquo;
&ldquo;I learnt that medals were designed to convey deep meaning, such as the ideal qualities expected of athletes, and messages for those who supported them,&rdquo; said Josai sprinter Kohana Adia Ross. &ldquo;Seeing Joseph and Sanibrown clinch gold medals at the Japan Championships really made me want to follow in their footsteps.&rdquo; She also gleefully noted that the Japan National Stadium, the main venue of WCH Tokyo 25, was only &ldquo;a bike ride away, so I look forward to coming within close distance of world-class athletes, including my idol, Sha'Carri Richardson.&rdquo;
With regard to her ideas for medal design and her own message, Kohana said: &ldquo;I wrote &lsquo;Conquer,&rsquo; by which I meant &lsquo;conquering&rsquo; one&rsquo;s own record, rather than &lsquo;conquering&rsquo; others. I hope to see top athletes set fresh new records for their own performance and also break world records.&rdquo;
Both Tenshin and Kohana have secured their spots in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay at the Fukuoka Inter High competition starting 28 July 2024.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m in top form,&rdquo; Tenshin said. &ldquo;My aim is to secure a high placing.&rdquo;
&ldquo;I hope this competition will give me a boost for the future,&rdquo; said Kohana.
&ldquo;We held this interview session to somehow incorporate the ideas of young students, who represent our future, into the medal design,&rdquo; explained a smiling Mr. Nakagawa. &ldquo;Only winners receive medals, but I&rsquo;m glad to have been able to share the thinking and aspirations of those who produce them.&rdquo;
He concluded by talking about his own commitment to the task at hand. &ldquo;I hope to produce a medal design that will ingrain the victory and the entire experience in the athlete&rsquo;s mind and evoke memories of their time in Tokyo each time they look at it,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Including for the medal case, I&rsquo;m thinking about how to use a quintessential Japanese design to depict some kind of story and make a connection.&rdquo;

At the Budapest 2023 World Championships in August 2023, the hands of a clock that had stood still for 32 years moved. Kentaro Sato, who competed in the men's 400m preliminaries, clocked 44.77 seconds, 0.01 seconds faster than the 44.78 seconds clocked by Susumu Takano in the 1991 Japan Championships final and the oldest Japanese track record in the event. Sato, who began competing in track and field only after entering high school, uses his lucid mind and his ability to "reproduce" based on experience as his weapons. In his private life, the 29-year-old likes to go stargazing. Japan's "400m star" is looking forward to making further progress on the world stage.

Born in Saitama in 1994. Men&rsquo;s 400m Japanese record holder (44.77 seconds). He started running at Toyooka High School in Saitama Prefecture, and after graduating from Josai University, he joined Fujitsu. He competed in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020. He has competed in four World Championships in Athletics since Beijing 2015, where he first competed at age 20. In July 2023, he won a gold medal at the Asian Championships, recording 45.00 seconds, the second fastest time in Japan&rsquo;s history. At the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships in August, he recorded 44.77 seconds, surpassing the Japanese record of 0.01 seconds, which had not been broken for 32 years. He is an ace athlete in the Japanese short distance world and expected to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.

<h3>At First, Discovering the Rigors of the 400m: &ldquo;Didn&rsquo;t Know There Was Such a Tough Event&rdquo;</h3>

&ndash;How did you get started in athletics?
I started competing when I entered high school, first in the astronomy club. Later, I became a member of the track and field club as a dual club member, and here I am today. At first, I was mainly involved in the astronomy club, but I had played baseball until junior high school and wanted to be physically active, so a classmate from the track club asked me to join the club, saying, &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t have enough members and can&rsquo;t run in the relays, so I want you to join us.&rdquo;

&ndash;The 400m is the &ldquo;longest short distance event&rdquo;. How did you feel when you started?
My first exposure to 400m was the mile relay (4x400m relay). The high school track team was small, so all of the short distance athletes were required to run both the 4 x 100m relay and the mile relay. So I ran the 400m relay, and at first I was surprised that there was such a tough event (laughs). But we get used to it, so my fear of the 400m has lessened as I have done it more times. The 400m is a long distance and we can make corrections while we are running, so I began to enjoy it and continue to run it.

At the Budapest 2023 World Championships in August 2023, the hands of a clock that had stood still for 32 years moved. Kentaro Sato, who competed in the men's 400m preliminaries, clocked 44.77 seconds, 0.01 seconds faster than the 44.78 seconds clocked by Susumu Takano in the 1991 Japan Championships final and the oldest Japanese track record in the event.

On July 14, 2023, the history of the Japanese track and field world was set in motion. Sumire Hata, competing in the women's long jump at the Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand, set a new Japanese record of 6m97cm. This is the first time in 17 years that she has achieved such a feat. Aiming to exceed 7m, which is an unknown field for a Japanese woman, she has a unique background in that she switched to long jump after becoming a working member of society. We interviewed this jumper about her approach to the record and her thoughts on the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.

<h3>Sumire Hata</h3>
Born in 1996 in Osaka. Women&rsquo;s long jump Japanese record holder (6m97cm). She started athletics in high school, where she competed in short distance and high jump, and then moved to long jump, which is still her main event from working adult. After graduating from Mukogawa Women&rsquo;s University, she joined Shibata Kogyo Corporation in April 2019. In 2019, she became a leader in the Japanese women&rsquo;s long jump after her first win at the Japan Athletics Championships; in July 2023, she broke the Japanese record at the Asian Athletics Championships for the first time in 17 years.

<h3>Her admiration for high jump started with Shun Oguri-san.</h3>

&ndash;What made you start running track and field?
I was always good at running from childhood and was always first in athletic events. When I was in elementary school, I took up swimming as a lesson, and since there was no track and field team at junior high school, I joined the basketball team and thought about continuing in high school. However, I wanted to test myself to see how strong I was, so I started track and field.
&nbsp;
&ndash;You were a sprinter when you started track and field and then switched to high jump. What was it that got you interested in it?
When I was in junior high school, I saw a TV drama in which Shun Oguri-san was a high jumper and he looked so cool that I always had a crush on him.(Note: &ldquo;Hana Zakari no Kimitachi e &ndash; Ikemen♂ Paradise&rdquo;) I wanted to try it even after I joined the track club, but I was expected to run and it was difficult to tell my advisor. But when I boldly said, &ldquo;I want to try it,&rdquo; he readily said, &ldquo;You should try it,&rdquo; so I started high jump (laughs).
