Christmas comes early for thousands of athletics fans

- World Athletics Championships tickets to go on sale on 12 December -

As the end of the year approaches and our thoughts turn to gift buying for family and friends, the organisers of the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 have Christmas all wrapped up for thousands of fans in Hungary and around the world.

Marking 250 days to go to this much anticipated event, the Budapest organising committee will put 420,000 tickets on sale on 12 December in a first come, first served online ticketing programme, which will allow fans around the globe to see the superheroes of athletics compete to be crowned World Champion.

With 50 percent of tickets priced under $33, fans will be able to see the world’s fastest women and men line up to compete in the heats of the 100m, and just $57 could secure a seat for the star-studded evening sessions which will feature a number of finals across the different disciplines.

There will be highlights in every session as Ryan Crouser goes head-to-head with Joe Kovacs in the shot put and Sydney McLaughlin gears up for what could be an incredible 400m and 400m hurdles double.

There will be special offers and discounts for families and group bookings, making this a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans to enjoy the event with those closest to them, and premium tickets for those who want to get closest to the field of play.

Packages will also be available for those who want to follow their favourite athletes from the heats to the finals or their favourite events like the throws and jumps.

“There really will be something for everyone, from the novice to the super fan. We will make Christmas gift-buying easy with nine exhilarating days of action to come in our brand new, purpose-built National Athletics Centre,” said Adam Schmidt, Government Commissioner for the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23.

“We will also be hosting ticket-free road events as the great marathoners and race walkers stride through our beautiful capital, passing world recognised landmarks and crossing the majestic Danube.”

Every session of the World Athletics Championships in the Hungarian capital promises exciting and memorable moments. Multiple world champions will be crowned in each of the nine evening sessions and all five morning programmes will offer an exciting mix of events and athletes. In addition to the 14 stadium sessions there will be six road events held in the World Heritage site of central Budapest. The World Championships programme has been designed to maximise the number of occasions superheroes of athletics can be seen on the track.

But the best gift of all is for the early birds who register, as they will have the first pick of the tickets before they go on sale. A special pre-sale window of three days has been created for all those who like to get their Christmas gifts early.  From 9 December those registered, will have an exclusive ticket-buying window ahead of the general sale, which starts on 12 December.
