15,000 people attended the opening day of the National Athletics Centre for families

National Athletics Centre Family Opening Day

More than 5,000 people registered for the running races, which took place over various distances in the leisure park and finished on the new, purpose-built stadium's track. 2,000 people also participated the behind the scenes guided tours in the athletics stadium.

Amateur and professional athletes and fans from all over the country, families, friends and architecture enthusiasts came to visit Hungary's newest stadium and sports and leisure park. Thousands of people also took part in the running races on the super-fast Mondo track on which the world stars will compete in August 2023. They also had the chance to try out the playful athletics equipment that families will be able to see in the park during the World Championships too.

Budapest's newest jewel will host the third biggest sporting event in the world in August this year and will serve the public after the World Championships.

"Thanks to all our compatriots, the Hungarian Government, the designer, the contractor and everyone who contributed to the construction of this unique facility, a worthy home of centuries of Hungarian athletics, which will also be a leisure and sports centre after the World Championships, open to everyone, where amateur athletes and those who want to relax can feel at home, and where they will return to in their everyday lives after the World Championships," said Ádám Schmidt, State Secretary for Sport and Government Commissioner for the World Championships. "The biggest sporting event in the history of our country starts on 19 August. I can't wait to share this special experience with tens of thousands of sports-loving compatriots and cheer on the Hungarian team!" - he added.

The atmosphere of the World Championships was conjured up in the National Athletics Centre when the stands were filled with spectators and entertainment programmes, concerts and sporting activities awaited the visitors.

Anyone could try out the 100m sprint on the very same track the fastest men in the world will compete in the first weekend of the World Championships. The 1.7 and 3.9-kilometre runs also were partly in the stadium park, however, the finish was in the stadium giving all the runners a lifetime memory.
