Historic facts

  • There was a rare occurrence of a shared gold when Poland last held the World Indoor Championships in 2014 between Kamila Licwinko (POL) and Mariya Kuchina (RUS) at 2.00m with Ruth Beitia (ESP) winning bronze on countback
  • Kamila Licwinko (POL) remains the only Polish woman to have won a gold medal in the World Indoor Championships history (Polish women have won 20 medals in total: 1 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals)
  • At 18y/62d Vashti Cunningham (USA) became the youngest ever female world indoor champion in any event on home soil in Portland in 2016
  • Stefka Kostadinova's (BUL) championship record of 2.05m from 1987 is the longest standing championship record
  • There have been 30 2.00m-plus clearances in the women's high jump in the history of the World Indoor Championships

Potential storylines and notes

  • Can Nicola Olyslagers (AUS) become just the second three-time winner after Stefka Kostadinova who eventually won five world indoor high jump titles
  • Can Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR) regain the title she won in Belgrade in 2022? Mahuchikh also won the European indoor title in this arena in 2021
  • Can Maria Zodzik (POL) become just the second Polish winner of this title after Kamila Licwinko won gold in Sopot in 2014
  • Can Angelina Topic (SRB) emulate or better her coach and father Dragutin who won bronze in 1999? She has finished 9-4-4 in her three previous appearances
  • The top six finishers from the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo all feature on the entry-list: 1. Nicola Olyslagers (AUS), 2. Maria Zodzik (POL), 3. Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR) / Angelina Topic (SRB), 5. Yuliya Levchenko (UKR) / Eleanor Patterson (AUS)
  • Mahuchikh’s 2.03m clearance in Lviv was her best clearance since breaking the world record with 2.10m in 2024. This was also the first time she has competed in Ukraine since 2021. "I wanted to stay at home a little longer than one month and so we decided to prepare at home and basically start our season in Lviv to give some joy to the fans. I was surprised how many people came to support me there and how many kids came just to meet me or say hello. All these things gave me much strength, power and motivation to move forward and jump over 2.03m," she said
  • Mahuchikh has only jumped three times this year, less than usual. "I didn’t compete a lot during this indoor season. I live in Dnipro city [in Ukraine] which means the border is a bit far for traveling. That is why I had three competitions only and two of them were in Ukraine. It’s a little bit unusual for me but I was able to get in very good shape. I like Toruń Arena because I got my first gold here at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2021. Now I come back a different person," she said.
