China’s 16-year-old Yan Ziyi broke her own world U20 javelin record with a 64.83m* throw at the Throws Invitation Meeting 1 in Chengdu on Friday (28).

It is the third time that Yan has improved the world U20 record.

She first threw 64.28m as a 15-year-old in Hangzhou in April last year, improving both the ratified world U20 record of 63.86m set by Cuba’s Yulenmis Aguilar in 2015 and the unratified 63.96m achieved by Elina Tzengko of Greece in 2020.

Yan then threw 64.41m in Quzhou in September and now she has added another 42cm to that mark with her performance in Chengdu.

Yan won the world U20 title in Lima last year and was then among the three athletes nominated for the 2024 World Athletics Women's Rising Star Award.
