Gebrselassie sets new seasons best in Nuremberg
25 June 2000 Nuremberg, Germany In his second outing of the 2000 outdoor season, Ethiopias Haile Gebrselassie set a new seasons best in the 5000m in Nuremberg on Sunday.
Despite cool, rainy conditions, Gebrselassie, who holds the world record for the distance of 12:39.36 (Helsinki 13 June 1998), clcoked 13:01.07 to make a marginal improvement over his debut performance of 13:01.6 (Milan 7 June, 2000).
Gebrselassie was hardly challenged by the rest of the field, finishing well over a second ahead of second-placed Evans Ruto of Kenya, who recorded 13:02.71.
