Having won at the Herculis meeting in 2014 and 2015, world 1500m champion Genzebe Dibaba will return to the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco on 15 July in pursuit of a third consecutive victory at the Stade Louis II.

In 2014 she set a meeting record of 14:28.88 over 5000m and she followed it one year later with her stunning world record of 3:50.07 in the 1500m.

This year the Ethiopian will contest the 3000m and will once again have in her sights the meeting record, which stands at 8:21.42 to Gabriela Szabo.

Dibaba’s best time for the distance is her world indoor record of 8:16.60, while her fastest outdoor 3000m performance is 8:26.21. If she succeeds in breaking the meeting record, she will also take down Almaz Ayana’s outdoor Ethiopian record of 8:22.22. She could also challenge Hellen Obiri’s African record of 8:20.68, which is also the IAAF Diamond League record.
