A host of the world’s best sprinters will take part in the Meeting Herculis on 18 July as the Louis II Stadium hosts the 10th fixture of the 2014 IAAF Diamond League.

In the men’s 200m, the current world leader in that event will take on the 100m world leader as Warren Weir faces Justin Gatlin.

Weir, the world silver medallist and Olympic bronze medallist from Jamaica, recently won the 200m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in New York in a world-leading 19.82, the third-fastest time of his career.

Gatlin, the world silver medallist over 100m, heads the 2014 world season lists in his specialist event after clocking 9.87 in Beijing last month.

With their career head-to-head record tied at 1-1, this will be just their third ever clash. The meeting record of 19.72 could even be under threat.

France’s two best sprinters will also be in the field in the form of European 100m champion and 2011 world 200m bronze medallist Christophe Lemaitre and European indoor 60m champion Jimmy Vicaut.

The field in the 110m hurdles is just as strong. World champion David Oliver takes on Olympic champion and world record-holder Aries Merritt, world leader Pascal Martinot-Lagarde and European champion Sergey Shubenkov.

While Merritt’s meeting record at 12.93 looks safe for at least another year, world indoor silver medallist Martinot-Lagarde will be aiming to become the next member of the sub-13-second club, following victories at the IAAF Diamond League meetings in Rome and Oslo, posting world-leading marks on both occasions.

Like Merritt, Oliver is a former winner in Monaco, having won in 2008 and 2010. Monaco is also a happy stomping ground for Shubenkov, having equalled his own Russian record here in 2012 when finishing second.
