Organisers of the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe have announced that world indoor champion Nia Ali and world leader Kendra Harrison will be competing in the 60m hurdles at the opening IAAF World Indoor Tour meeting of 2016 on 6 February.

It adds even more strength to the event, following the recent announcement that world silver medallist Cindy Roleder will also be competing in that discipline in the German city.

Ali won the world indoor title in 2014 in a PB of 7.80, but missed the whole of 2015 to give birth to her first child. She returned to competition earlier this month with an 8.12 clocking, faster than her season opener in 2014.

All-round hurdles talent Harrison has already been in PB form this year. The NCAA indoor and outdoor champion clocked a PB of 7.83 last week to jump to the top of this year’s world lists.

Winners of global titles will feature in two other events. 2008 Olympic champion Nelson Evora will take on European champion Benjamin Compaore and world junior silver medallist Max Hess in the triple jump.

Evora has fond memories of competing in Karlsruhe as it was where he set his Portuguese indoor record of 17.33m back in 2008. After missing 2012 and most of 2013 through injury, Evora returned to form last year to take gold at the European Indoor Championships and bronze at the IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015.

World indoor pentathlon champion Nadine Broersen will compete in the high jump in Karlsruhe, where she will face current world leader Marie-Laurence Jungfleisch of Germany. Jungfleisch recently opened her season in Karlsruhe with a leap of 1.94m, which matches Broersen’s personal best height. Jungfleisch’s indoor PB is 1.97m, while her outdoor best of 1.99m was set in last year’s World Championships final.
