World Athletics Vetting Panel member Schimming-Chase appointed High Court Judge of Namibia

Esi Schimming-Chase

Esi Schimming-Chase, a member of the World Athletics Vetting Panel since 2019, has been appointed as Judge in the High Court of Namibia with effect from 1 April.

Schimming-Chase, who is based in Windhoek, previously served as an acting judge of the High Court in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2020. She is the first female senior counsel to be appointed permanent judge.

A specialist in commercial and constitutional litigation, arbitration and mediation, Schimming-Chase qualified as a barrister in the UK in 1994, was admitted as a legal practitioner in Namibia in 2002, and has been practising law as a member of the Society of Advocates since 2003. The society gave her senior counsel status in July 2017.

She will continue her role on World Athletics’ Vetting Panel, where she assists in assessing the eligibility of new and existing officials being put forward for roles within World Athletics.
