Course records for Toniolo, Kisri in Treviso

At the third Treviso Marathon, Italian marathon fans discovered two new stars. In spite of snowy conditions, Deborah Toniolo smashed her personal best by six minutes and set a new course record of 2:28:31, while Morocco's Rachid Kisri won the men's race in 2:10:34, a course record as well.

Toniolo, running in just her third Marathon, had hoped to dip under 2:31, but had managed to produce something quite a bit better. Her previous best of 2:34:24 came at the 2004 Milano City Marathon. In Treviso, she covered the second half in a brisk 1:12:26, a performance better than her personal best in the Half Marathon.

"It is a dream, it was a fantastic race," she said. She lives not far from Treviso, in Piovene Rocchette (Vicenza), the same bornplace of famous Italy's marathon runner Orlando Pizzolato, double New York champion in the mid-1980s.

Kisri, a non-professional runner who has been living in Italy for five years, is originally from Ifrane, where double World Marathon champion Jaouad Gharib usually trains.

"I thought to run 2:11, but during the race I felt really well," he said. "If I trained full time, I would clock 2:08-2:09."
