Miltiadis Tentoglou, Marquis Dendy and Maykel Masso will clash in a long jump battle at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup, the third Gold level meeting in the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series, in Torun, Poland, on 8 February.

Greek star Tentoglou won the world indoor title in Belgrade last year and went on to secure silver at the World Championships in Oregon, gold at the European Championships in Munich and the Wanda Diamond League title at the final in Zurich, adding those honours to the Olympic crown he claimed in Tokyo in 2021.

The 24-year-old won four of his five indoor competitions last year, topped by the 8.55m indoor PB he set to win his title in Belgrade. Torun is where Tentoglou claimed his second European indoor title in 2021.

USA’s Dendy is a three-time world medallist who claimed gold in Portland in 2016 and bagged bronze in the competition won by Tentoglou in Belgrade. Their most recent clash saw Dendy finish runner-up to Tentoglou in the Diamond League final, while their head-to-head record stands 6-3 in Tentoglou’s favour.

Cuba’s Masso leapt to Olympic bronze in Tokyo and came close to another medal at the World Championships in Oregon, as he finished fourth with a 8.15m jump. He placed third in the Diamond League final behind Tentoglou and Dendy and set his PB of 8.39m outdoors in 2021.

Also confirmed for the Copernicus Cup are Britany Anderson, Luca Kozak and Pia Skrzyszowska, who will race for success in the 60m hurdles. Jamaica’s Anderson claimed world 100m hurdles silver last year, while Poland’s Skrzyszowska and Hungary’s Kozak claimed the top two spots at the European Championships.

A total of seven meetings feature in the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series, which starts in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 27 January before stops in Boston, Torun, New York, Lievin, Madrid and Birmingham.

Already confirmed for Torun are Keely Hodgkinson, Mary Moraa and Diribe Welteji, who will clash in the 800m.
