Ethiopia’s Atsedu Tsegay will return to the Sportisino Prague Half Marathon on 5 April, the race where he made his name when he ran a course record 58:47 in 2012, organisers of the IAAF Gold Label Road Race announced on Thursday (16).
It was a performance that made Tsegay the fourth fastest man ever over the distance and no one has been able to eclipse that time on a record-eligible course in the ensuing two years.
After some injury problems in the 18 months after his Prague triumph, Tsegay is clearly back to his best form after a win in the New Delhi Hal Marathon last month, when he won convincingly in 59:12.
Tsegay has said that now he is back to his best shape, he is anxious to return to Prague and regain the crown that Eritrea’s Zersanay Tadese claimed last year, when the world record-holder won in 1:00:10.
Among Tsegay’s rivals in the Czech capital this year will be Kenya’s Philemon Limo, the 2011 winner of the Prague Half Marathon in 59:30 and the winner of the 2013 Mattoni Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon, another race on Czech soil and an IAAF Silver Label Road Race
The women's field in Prague this year will be led by Ethiopia’s Firehiwot Dado, the 2011 winner of the New York City Marathon who set her half marathon best of 1:08:35 at the 2012 New York City Half.
