The time, 27:30.06, won&rsquo;t threaten any of the world&rsquo;s top 10,000m runners. Lopez Lomong is merely 17th on the 2019 world list.
But considering he ran his closing 400 metres in 55.59 and has one of the biggest ranges in athletics history, the 34-year-old Lomong will be a threat ahead of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.
Few have ever run 1:45 for 800m plus 27:30 for 10,000m, as Lomong has. The only other American to do so was Alan Webb. Lomong's other PBs include 3:32.20 for 1500m, 3:51.45 for a mile and 13:07.95 for 5000m.
&ldquo;That&rsquo;s amazing. I didn&rsquo;t think about,&rdquo; he said Thursday night after successfully defending his 10,000m title at the USA Championships at Des Moines, Iowa. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s something I celebrate about. I just put my head down.
&ldquo;In the World Championships, we&rsquo;ll see what I can do. I&rsquo;ll go back to the drawing board and see how I can go back and be competitive.&rdquo;
Lomong, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, immigrated to the United States at 16 and became a citizen in 2007. He made the US Olympic team in 2008 in the 1500m and carried the flag at the opening ceremony. He was 10th in the 5000m at the 2012 Olympics but had not made a US team since 2013 because of a series of injuries.
Lomong dropped his previous PB in the 10,000m by nearly 50 seconds from 28:21.37 at Stanford last year. It was his debut at the distance.
&ldquo;It was terrible. I finished second, and I was like, &lsquo;Forget it. I don&rsquo;t want to do it any more," he said.
He reconsidered, and won the national title in 28:58.38. Shadrack Kipchirchir was not going to allow another tactical race such as that one.
Kipchirchir towed the field through 2000 metres in 5:30 and 5000m in about 13:45. He said his goal was to finish 27:30, even with a light rain and 82 percent humidity.
&ldquo;I was like, &lsquo;Whoever wins has to run. I just went and pushed it,&rdquo; he said.
Kipchirchir, whose PB is 27:07.55, was within a second of Lomong after 24 laps. But the winner picked up 17 seconds on the final lap, in which Kipchirchir ran 72 seconds for a time of 27:47.71. It was the fourth successive runner-up finish for Kipchirchir at the national championships.
Leonard Korir was third in 28:01.43 to claim the third Doha spot. The top three all have met the World Championships standard.
Of the 16 runners ahead of Lomong on the world list, 13 came from the July 17 race at Hengelo, 10 of them Ethiopians. Lomong became No. 14 on the all-time U.S. list, just behind Craig Virgin, who prefaced his 27:29.16 in 1980 by winning the IAAF world cross country title.
Lomong called himself the &ldquo;grandpa&rdquo; of the Bowerman Track Club in Portland, Oregon, and said the &ldquo;young energy&rdquo; of teammates fuels him.
&ldquo;I love running. I love to prepare and try to wear that USA on my chest and represent my nation the best I can,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s what motivates me, the people, the American people cheering me. That&rsquo;s why I keep putting my shoes on and going for it.&rdquo;
<h3>Fifth straight 10,000m title for Huddle</h3>
Another veteran, 34-year-old Molly Huddle, scored a fifth successive victory in the women&rsquo;s 10,000m. She ran the last mile in 4:44 and second 5000 in 15:20 for a time of 31:58.47.
Huddle will attempt to reach the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the marathon but said she loves the track.
&ldquo;Once you do a marathon, you really feel you can do anything,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m getting older in my career, and every World Championships team is a blessing. I never take them for granted.&rdquo;
Emily Sisson was second in 32:02.19 and Kellyn Taylor third in 32:02.74. Marielle Hall was fifth in 32:14.41 but claimed the third Doha team spot because she has met the standard.
<h3>In first race since childbirth, Felix advances</h3>
In her first race in 13 months, Allyson Felix was fourth in a heat of the 400m in 52.20 and advanced to the semifinals. She gave birth to daughter Camryn in an emergency Caesarean section on November.
Winner of her heat, in 51.14, was Lynna Irby, 20. Irby was five years old when Felix won her first Olympic medal in 2004.
&ldquo;I felt rusty, which was to be expected,&rdquo; Felix said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve known for a while that I was going to run in the championships . . . it was always my goal. It was just a matter of what type of form I would be in, and it&rsquo;s not up to my standard.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been at this a long time, so it&rsquo;s always nice to feel the support of the crowd.&rdquo;
Felix turns 34 on 18 November. She is already the oldest Olympic women&rsquo;s 400m medalist in history.
Defending champion Shakima Wimbley had the fastest time, 50.87.

Keturah Orji became the first women to win four successive US titles in the triple jump, leaping 14.56m in the first round. National record-holder Tori Franklin was second with 14.36m.
Elsewhere:
Sam Matthis also won with a first-round attempt, throwing the discus 66.69m. Brian Williams was second at 65.76m. Mason Finley, bronze medallist at the 2017 worlds, was seventh at 61.05m.
Ariana Ince climbed out of seventh place with a fifth-round javelin throw of 61.06m to upset Kara Winger, an eight-time US champion and national record-holder. Winger, second at 59.73m, has finished in the top three every year since 2008.
Justin Gatlin was second in his heat of the 100m in 10.16 (-0.8). He does not have to run in the semifinals because he has a bye for Doha as defending champion. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t care how big of an athlete you are, you always have first-round jitters,&rdquo; he said. World leader Christian Coleman coasted to victory in his heat in 10.29 (-1.6).
Two streaks were preserved. Michael Norman won his 15th straight race at 400, clocking 44.81 in the opening round. Bryce Hoppel is 21-0 in the 800m this year, taking his heat in 1:47.65.
In tribute, USA Track &amp; Field honored Gabe Grunewald by leaving flowers in lane 1 at the start of 1500m heats. She died on 11 June from cancer.

Noah Lyles is doing things at age 20 that... well, things not even Usain Bolt did. There might never be a sprinter to match Bolt, but Lyles is trying to emulate him in performance and showmanship.
Lyles caught Ronnie Baker in the final strides Friday (22) to win the 100m in 9.88, the fastest in the world this year, on day two of the US Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
That makes Lyles the world leader in both the 100m and 200m, in which he ran 19.69 on 26 May at Eugene, Oregon. Moreover, his PBs are now faster than those of a 20-year-old Bolt, whose times were 10.03 and 19.75 in 2007.
Lyles, the 100m gold medalist at the IAAF World U20 World Championships Bydgoszcz 2016, is the youngest US athlete to be both sub-10 and sub-20. He became the youngest US champion in the 100m since Sam Graddy in 1984. Lyles acknowledged he did not think his first US title would be in the 100m.
&ldquo;I thought it would be the 200m,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;So to come out here and win the 100m, it makes me very happy. I&rsquo;ve proved: one, I&rsquo;m not just a 200m runner, and two, I&rsquo;m out here with the big dogs and I&rsquo;m trying to be just as good as them.&rdquo;
Afterwards, he bowed to the crowd and did a &ldquo;Shoot&rdquo; dance introduced by rapper BlocBoy JB and popularised in Fortnite, a video game. Lyles wore &ldquo;Incredibles&rdquo; socks from the animated Disney movies.
He said he plans dance moves and themes before meets &ldquo;in case I win&rdquo;.
He won his semifinal in 9.89, equaling the world lead of Mike Rodgers from Thursday&rsquo;s heats. Rodgers scratched from semifinals, joining a long list of stars missing from these championships.
Yet the 100m champion was nearly neither Rodgers nor Lyles, considering Baker&rsquo;s lead. The 60m bronze medalist from the World Indoor Championships in March was finally overtaken and finished second in a PB of 9.90.
Kendal Williams was third and Isiah Young fourth, both in 10.00. Cameron Burrell, whose father Leroy once held the world record, was fifth in 10.04.
Lyles said he has been coming from behind since age 13, especially in the 100m.
&ldquo;It made the race that much more interesting,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;For a second there, I didn&rsquo;t know if I got it. I felt like in my heart I got it. But you never have it until the screen says you do.&rdquo;
The only other sprinters to run sub-9.90 twice in the same day have been Jamaicans Bolt, Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin and Trayvon Bromell of the US.
<h3>Hobbs takes women's 100m title</h3>
Aleia Hobbs also achieved a historic victory, becoming the first collegian to win the women&rsquo;s 100m since Carlette Guidry of the University of Texas in 1991. Hobbs, the NCAA champion from Louisiana State, won the final in 10.91. She was sub-11 in all three rounds, clocking 10.97, 10.89w and 10.91.

Ashley Henderson was second in a PB of 10.96. Jenna Prandini was third in 10.98, her fastest since 2016.
Hobbs said it was disappointing that world champion Tori Bowie was absent.
&ldquo;Just &lsquo;cause that&rsquo;s Tori Bowie. I would love to race her,&rdquo; Hobbs said. &ldquo;I know it&rsquo;s coming soon. I&rsquo;m looking forward to it.&rdquo;
In the men&rsquo;s triple jump, two-time Olympic champion Christian Taylor had to head to the runway soon after he ran a 45.95 semifinal of the 400m. He passed his first attempt, fouled, and then passed again.
With Taylor out, Donald Scott jumped 17.37m, nearly breaking Taylor&rsquo;s Drake Stadium record of 17.40m from 2011. Chris Bernard was second at 17.32m and KeAndre Bates third at 17.16m.
Zach Ziemek won the decathlon &ndash; part of the IAAF Combined Events Challenge &ndash; with 8294, nipping the stadium record of 8291 set by Ashton Eaton at the 2013 US Championships. Ziemek is the first US decathlon champion other than Eaton or Trey Hardee since 2010. Ziemek was first or second in six events, posting his highest scores in the 100m (10.64) and pole vault (5.35m).
In the heats on Friday, world record-holder Keni Harrison was fastest in the 100m hurdles at 12.46.
In the finals on Thursday, Keturah Orji did not reclaim her US record but set a championships record of 14.59m in winning the triple jump for a third successive year. World leader Tori Franklin, who set a US record of 14.84m last month, first broke the 14-year-old meeting record (14.45m by Tiombe Hurd) with a distance of 14.52m in the second round. Franklin held that record for about five minutes, or until Orji came through with 14.59m in the third round.
<h3>Lomong and Huddle take 10,000m titles</h3>
Lopez Lomong and Molly Huddle earned historic wins in the 10,000m with fast finishes.
Lomong ran the closing 400 metres in 54.16 to take the men&rsquo;s race in 28:58.38. His other national title was in the 1500m in 2010, making him the first in 90 years to achieve such a double. Joie Ray won eight titles in the mile from 1915-23, and the 10,000m in 1928. Shadrack Kipchirchir was second to Lomong in 28:59.67.
The 33-year-old Huddle led each lap and became the first woman to win four straight 10,000m titles. She ran the final 800 metres in 2:13.50, featuring a 64.52 last lap, to finish in 31:52.32. It was her 27th national title, counting track and road.
Elsewhere in field events, Valarie Allman won the discus at 63.55m and Kara Winger the javelin at 62.88m. It was the eighth US championship in the javelin for Winger, second in history behind Dorothy Dodson, who won 11 in succession (1939-49).
The biggest surprise of Thursday&rsquo;s heats was failure of defending champion and US leader Robby Andrews (3:36.05) to qualify for the final of the 1500m. He was sixth in one of three semifinals in 3:43.89 and did not advance on time. Olympic champion Matt Centrowitz won his semifinal in 3:46.05 off a 54.85 last lap.

Lyles clocks 9.88 world lead to take US 100m title

Molly Huddle of the US and Ethiopian Feyisa Lilesa won their respective titles at the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon in New York City on Sunday (19).
Huddle, who won the race for the third consecutive year, took the tape in 1:08:19, just ahead of her training partner Emily Sisson, who was making her half-marathon debut on the streets of New York.
Sisson was second in 1:08:21, just steps behind Huddle, followed by Burundi&rsquo;s Diane Nukuri in 1:09:13. Huddle&rsquo;s time was the third-fastest ever in the 12-year history of the event; she set the event record last year.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I never would have thought I could come back here and win three times,&rdquo; Huddle said. &ldquo;I remember the first win was such a surprise for me, and last year we ran so fast. I just feel really lucky to have won a third time. Every time is really difficult with an international field."
Huddle and Sisson, both residents if Providence, Rhode Island, came out quick from the start line, and just after the five-kilometre mark, the pair, along with U.S. Olympic marathoner Amy Cragg, began to pull away from the pack. Nukuri and Kenya&rsquo;s Edna Kiplagat eventually passed Cragg, who finished the day in fifth.
In the men&rsquo;s race, Lilesa&rsquo;s time of 1:00:04 was the fifth fastest in event history and fastest in the last five years. The Rio 2016 Olympic silver medalist was challenged heavily by Great Britain&rsquo;s Callum Hawkins, who came second in 1:00:08, and fellow Ethiopian Teshome Mekonen, who was third in 1:00:28. He outsprinted them both down the final stretch toward Wall Street, taking his first win in 2017 after finishing second at January&rsquo;s Houston Half Marathon in a photo finish.
&ldquo;After I came back from Rio, my body was not fit, and I didn't think I was going to win,&rdquo; Lilesa said. &ldquo;After that, I lost two races. I am very happy now, and I'm getting very good feelings from winning the NYC Half.&rdquo;
Japan&rsquo;s Kenta Murayama led early on but faded to fifth, crossing the line in 1:00:57, one place and two seconds behind defending event champion Stephen Sambu of Kenya.
Chris Derrick was the top American finisher in the men&rsquo;s field, with a personal-best time of 1:01:12.&nbsp;

Although it is likely that most of the 8000 fans at Hayward Field had their eyes on the big names on the track on the first day of the US Championships, pride of place went to shot putter Michelle Carter and long jumper Marquis Dendy in Eugene on Thursday (25). Carter became just the third woman in the world to throw beyond 20 metres this year when she won her ninth US title &ndash; six outdoors and three indoors &ndash; with her first-round effort of 20.02m, just 22cm short of her US record set in 2013.She quickly dismissed the opposition and she eventually won by more than a metre."I was ready for a big throw and it came out on the first one," said Carter.It was the second-best competition of her career and after a number of near-misses on the senior stage outdoors, including fourth at the 2013 IAAF World Championships, the 2004 world junior champion will be aiming to finally climb the podium at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.By contrast, Marquis Dendy won his first national long jump title when he rode the back of a 3.7m/s following wind to fly out to 8.68m in the first round.Dendy also jumped a windy 8.54m in the third round and then got a legal personal best of 8.39m with his final jump.&ldquo;It definitely feels good that I&rsquo;ve already been here,&rdquo; said Dendy, who won US collegiate titles in the long jump and triple jump on the same track two weeks ago."I already knew how the wind operates here. It&rsquo;s kind of windy and there were a couple fouls in the first flight, but I knew how it was going to go down."The following wind helped most of the rest of the jumpers and no fewer than five men were blown farther than 8.30m. But Jeffrey Henderson jumped 8.44m actually into a slight breeze in the opening round, a distance which was good enough for second place.Mike Hartfield was third with a windy 8.42m while Marquise Goodwin, who has been plying his trade in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, just fell short of making a sensational return to the sport after having been given special dispensation to compete in the championships.Goodwin was jumping in competition for the first time since the London 2012 Olympic Games, and the 2012 US champion jumped 8.37m to finish in fourth place. In the only track finals on a day when five finals in the field were contested, US 10,000m record-holder Galen Rupp got his seventh title at the distance. Rupp crossed the finish line in 28:11.61, with Ben True second in 28:14.26 and Hassan Mead third in 28:16.54, to extend his winning streak.The 2008 Olympic bronze medallist Shalane Flanagan pushed the pace early during the women&rsquo;s 10,000m final to string out the field of 22 women and eventually pare the leading group down to four with eight laps remaining.Molly Huddle, the US 5000m record-holder, then used her speed from the shorter distances to kick away from her training partners of Flanagan and Emily Infeld over the last lap beforfe crossing the line in 31:39.20. Flanagan was second in 31:42.29 with Infeld third in 31:42.60.In the men&rsquo;s javelin, Sean Furey threw a personal best of 83.08m in the last round to move up from second to first and capture his third US title. Riley Dolezal&rsquo;s third-round effort of 80.75m held the lead until Furey found his best form.Kibwe Johnson won the men&rsquo;s hammer with 76.95m after an enthralling competition which saw three men beyond 76 metres. Jared Schuurmans took the men&rsquo;s discus crown with 64.64m.The prodigious Trayvon Bromell of Baylor University ran 9.84 (1.3m/s) in the 100m heats to become the fourth-fastest US sprinter and equal 10th fastest man of all-time. "I&rsquo;m really surprised because when I slowed down, I didn&rsquo;t think that I would be running that fast,&rdquo; said Bromell after recording the fastest time in history by a teenager. &ldquo;I was like &lsquo;Man, that&rsquo;s crazy'. I didn&rsquo;t think I&rsquo;d come and run that fast in the prelims.&ldquo;It&rsquo;s all about having a championship mindset,&rdquo; said Bromell, who is still only 19. &ldquo;Many people think because I&rsquo;m young that I don&rsquo;t have that mindset. You&rsquo;ve got to understand that you can&rsquo;t win them all.&rdquo;However, Bromell was not actually the fastest in the heats; that honour belonged to Remontay McClain who was blown to a time of 9.82 with a 4.9m/s following wind in his preliminary round.On the women&rsquo;s side, Carmelita Jeter ran the fastest 100m time of the day with a 4.5m/s wind behind her on her 10.87 dash. Two US road-running records were broken on Saturday (18), as Molly Huddle and Ben True won the women&rsquo;s and men&rsquo;s elite races at the BAA 5k, kicking off the Boston Marathon weekend.Huddle shattered the US record of 14:54 set by Deena Kastor in 2002, crossing the finish line in 14:50. True won the men&rsquo;s race in 13:22, bettering the US record of 13:24 set by Marc Davis in 1996.Both marks will be subject to ratification by USATF. The previous records were both achieved at the Carlsbad 5000.The women&rsquo;s race went out quickly, but Huddle bided her time. Ethiopia&rsquo;s Mamitu Daska, winner of the 10km and half marathon in Boston last year, led at the first mile, which was passed in 4:38 but Huddle was a couple of seconds behind.The pace then slowed slightly as Daska was reeled in. Daska, Huddle and 2008 world indoor 1500m champion Gelete Burka passed through the second mile in about 9:37.With about 200 metres remaining, Huddle began to make her move and kicked ahead of Daska and 2010 world indoor 3000m bronze medallist Sentayehu Ejigu. The 30-year-old proved to have the best finish and she crossed the line in 14:50, just four second shy of Meseret Defar&rsquo;s world best.It was Huddle&rsquo;s second big win of 2015, following her victory at the New York City Half Marathon last month in a personal best of 1:08:31. She now owns the US records for 5000m (14:42.64) and 5km.&ldquo;It (the record) was in the very back of my mind,&rdquo; Huddle told reporters after the race after successfully defending her BAA 5k title. &ldquo;I knew the course was very fast last year and when they made course improvements again this year, I thought you could run a record.&ldquo;At two miles, I did the math and realised even though I was in about fifth or sixth place, I was on American record pace so that kind of got me more momentum for the last mile.&rdquo;In a close finish, Ejigu finished just one second behind Huddle with Daska taking third place in 14:52. With Burka finishing fourth in 14:57, it was the first time in history that four women had run faster than 15 minutes in a road 5km.The men&rsquo;s race was similarly quick from the outset with the lead pack covering the first two miles in 8:34. True, who finished second last year, was in contention along with the Kenyan duo of Daniel Salel and Philip Langat.True and Sambu began to pull away from the rest of the field in the final mile. Sambu tried to push the pace, but True drew level with him with 150 metres remaining before gaining a slight edge in the closing stages to win in 13:22.As was the case in the women&rsquo;s race, the runner-up was just one second in arrears. Salel held on for third place in 13:27.Last year&rsquo;s BAA 5k winner Dejen Gebremesekl contested the mile this year and notched up another victory. Gold medallists and world record-holders will be lined up for what could be a stunning women&rsquo;s 5000m at the 2015 IAAF Diamond League meeting in Eugene, after the 41st Prefontaine Classic meeting organisers announced an outstanding field on Wednesday (8).Genzebe Dibaba owns three indoor world records &ndash; over 1500m, 3000m and 5000m &ndash; and she just missed the 5km world best on the roads by two seconds on a windy day in Carlsbad just over a week ago.&nbsp;Now the 24-year-old Ethiopian is ready again to test the best on the outdoor track in her first appearance at the Prefontaine Classic.She would also very much like to claim the Dibaba family record for the distance of 14:11.15 from her older sister Tirunesh, who is currently on maternity leave, a mark which is actually the world record. Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya is a four-time world champion, twice on the track and twice at cross country, and is returning from maternity leave after giving birth to her son in October 2013.Cheruiyot, the 2011 world 5000m and 10,000m champion, has won twice in three races at the Pre Classic, in 2011 setting the meeting and Hayward Field record of 14:33.96.As strong as Dibaba and Cheruiyot might be, there will be no shortage of talent challenging the big two. Ethiopia&rsquo;s Almaz Ayana was the only woman to beat Genzebe Dibaba last year at this distance, taking the African title by almost 10 seconds. Kenya&rsquo;s Viola Kibiwot has made her country's past four IAAF World Championships teams, as well as the past two Olympic teams and is also a former world junior champion on the track and at cross country.Hiwot Ayalew of Ethiopia is better known as a steeplechase but could also be in the mix. In 2013, she got a silver medal at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. <h3>Kenya's Kipyego on home territory </h3> Sally Kipyego may represent Kenya internationally but she is a familiar face in Eugene, having trained there for five years. During her time in Oregon, she earned the 2011 world and 2012 Olympic silver medals in the 10,000m. Alemitu Heroye of Ethiopia also knows Hayward Field and has fond memories of the venue after winning at the IAAF World Junior Championships last July. Still just 19, Heroye finished fourth in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships senior women&rsquo;s race just over a week ago. Kenya&rsquo;s Janet Kisa earned medals at last summer&rsquo;s Commonwealth Games and African Championships while her compatriot and Commonwealth 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon will make her debut over 5000m in Eugene.&nbsp; Also in the field, representing European interests, is Sweden&rsquo;s Meraf Bahta, who won the European 5000m gold medal last year. Russia&rsquo;s Yelena Korobkina won the European indoor 3000m title last month and will also be on the start line.&nbsp;Molly Huddle clocked 14:42.64 last summer and will be the main US hope. Dibaba tops outstanding 5000m field in Eugene – IAAF Diamond League 

The 2014 BAA 5km on Saturday (19) was one for the ages, as thousands of runners took to the streets of Boston two days prior to the Boston Marathon.Under crystal clear skies through Boston’s picturesque Back Bay neighbourhood, Ethiopia’s Dejen Gebremeskel set a men’s event record of 13:26, while Molly Huddle came from behind to win the women's race in 15:12.Moments after the starting horn sounded, Olympic 5000m silver medallist Gebremeskel bolted into the lead, taking control of the early pace. As reigning champion, Gebremeskel was determined to claim yet another BAA 5km crown.Covering the first mile in 4:23, Gebremeskel was joined by USA’s Ben True and Kenyan trio Daniel Salel, Stephen Sambu and Lani Rutto. The pack would remain together through the second mile (8:49), crossing the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street as one.Gebremeskel waited until the final straight to move up another gear on Charles Street, one that was only matched by two-time BAA 5km champion True.In a photo finish, Gebremeskel was given the verdict ahead of True as both finished in an event record time of 13:26.Sambu, the 2013 BAA 10km champion, rounded out the top three in 13:27.In the women’s race, US 5000m record-holder Molly Huddle powered her way through the second half, going on to win in 15:12. Her time ties the previous event record, set in 2012 by Ethiopia’s Werknesh Kidane.While 2013 BAA 10km champion Mamitu Daska took the pace out hard early on, hitting the first mile in 4:50, Huddle sat back and waited patiently. In sixth place when crossing the Boston Marathon finish line with less than a mile to go, Huddle began to slowly gain on the field. Soon thereafter, the world and Olympic finalist drew extra motivation from the tragic events of April 15, 2013.“I felt like everyone was cheering for us,” said Huddle. “With a half mile to go I thought it would be great for an American to win this race and so I think it gave me a little extra boost.”Using this inspiration, Huddle moved into third, then second, and found herself in front with the finish in sight.
