The IAAF is deeply saddened to learn of the death of 2009 world 800m champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, who died earlier today (24) in a car accident at the age of 34.

‘Fed up’ Mulaudzi breaks his outdoor World Championships jinx

Six weeks ago Mbulaeni Mulaudzi was ‘fed up’. Fed up that he had been unable to recover his form after illness and injuries had knocked him off his stride in his build up towards the World Championships here. So he packed his bags, left Europe, and returned home to South Africa.

Mbulaeni Mulaudzi may not be overly bashful, but he is gently soft-spoken, cunning on the track, and after capping his first indoor season with a world indoor title, he clearly displayed that he's as dangerous in a race as a coy leopard can be in the wild.
