Oslo’s Bislett Stadium has always had a great relationship with the Javelin and this year’s ExxonMobil Bislett Games will focus on the men’s event as part of its IAAF Diamond League programme on 13 June.
Organisers of the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Beijing have announced another raft of top names that will grace their meeting on 21 May, including both of the 2011 World Championships gold medallists in the javelin, Germany’s Mattias De Zordo and Russia’s Mariya Abakumova.
A 200 metres in under 19 seconds? It may not be probable, but it is not impossible – according to Usain Bolt.
Matthias De Zordo eventually got a German flag to hoist in triumph, but he never got to set off on the traditional victory lap. While depriving him of one of the thrills of becoming a World champion in the men's Javelin Throw, it capped a night that was anything but usual.
