<h3> High</h3>
Without a doubt a high moment for me was breaking the seven-metre barrier for the first time in my career at the British Championships in Birmingham in July.
I tore my hamstring during the indoor season, but this at least gave me a spell where I could rehab and build my strength, which left me fresher for the outdoor season.
I went to the Commonwealth Games in April and finished fourth. My rhythm, as you might expect, was a little off but there was no pain and I was not too disappointed with my performance.
During the European summer, I jumped 6.85m to win at the Stockholm Diamond League. I didn&rsquo;t feel as if I over-exerted myself that day and the jump felt very natural.
By the time the British Championships arrived, I wasn&rsquo;t expecting to jump seven metres that day. In the first round, I jumped a solid 6.60m but then during the second round when a number of athletes were jumping far and setting PBs, I thought, &lsquo;okay, people are ready to jump today&rsquo;.
In that second round, I knew I&rsquo;d got a decent jump out but I didn&rsquo;t know how far. I actually thought it was about 6.90m. It was a very different feeling to in Doha (in 2015 when Ugen set her then her PB of 6.92m) when it felt like I was the air forever. So, when it came up on the board as 7.05m, I couldn&rsquo;t believe it. It was like a huge shock went through my body and I let out a high-pitched scream. I then threw my hands in the air and just ran.
To jump seven metres had been an aim of mine for many years. I recall as a youngster breaking the six-metre barrier for the first time, but to go over seven metres and achieve something so few other female athletes have done showcases to others that I am a world-class athlete.
<h3> Low</h3>
The greatest disappointment came in 2012 when I missed out on qualifying for the London Olympics. Since making my junior international debut (at the 2010 IAAF World U20 Championships in Moncton) as an 18-year-old, I had targeted making the Olympic team in my home city.
In 2011 I had moved from the UK to start student life at Texas Christian University in the US. It was a big adjustment, particularly training-wise where my new coach, Nic Petersen, replaced quantity with more quality sessions.
Early in the 2012 season I jumped a windy 6.83m &ndash; which was eight centimetres above the London Olympic qualification standard &ndash; a performance which gave me the belief that I could make the team.
At the British Championships in June, I was determined to post the qualification mark and in the second round, I thought I had done so. I was poised to raise my arms in the air, only for the board to reveal I&rsquo;d jumped 6.74m &ndash; just one centimetre short of the qualification mark.
I was disappointed but still excited to have come so close and set a personal best. I had to contain my emotions because I still had four jumps remaining. Unfortunately, I maybe started to push a little too much and I kept on fouling for the rest of the competition, so I couldn&rsquo;t go beyond 6.74m.
I had one more opportunity to qualify at a British League match but it wasn&rsquo;t to be. I remember I wrapped up my season after this competition and took an end-of-season break. It was very disappointing to miss out on the London Olympics and it took some time to get over. I think what made it even worse was the fact I had come so close to qualifying.

The long jump world may have just discovered its future king, and he&rsquo;s just 19 years old, Cuban and called Juan Miguel Echevarria.
At the BAUHAUS-galan meeting in Stockholm on Sunday (10), the sixth stop of the 2018 IAAF Diamond League, the teenager sent a shockwave through the sport in the final round of the men&rsquo;s long jump, soaring out to an astonishing 8.83m, a jump that is unfortunately ineligible for record purposes due to a marginally illegal tailwind of 2.1m/s.
But when he hit the sand and the mark flashed up on the screen, few cared about such minor details as gasps rippled through the crowd in the Olympic Stadium.
The event had been billed as a duel between Echevarria and world champion Luvo Manyonga, and most in the crowd would have picked the latter after he&rsquo;d leapt 8.58m to beat Echevarria in Rome 10 days ago.
But in truth, Manyonga never showed up here in Stockholm, at least not as the jumper we know, the South African&rsquo;s only valid jump coming in the second round with 8.25m. Instead it was USA&rsquo;s Jeff Henderson who mounted the strongest challenge, finishing second with his leap of 8.39m (+3.4m/s).
Echevarria seized command with his 8.50m (+0.2m/s) in the fourth round, then fouled his fifth before shaking up Stockholm in the final round with 8.83m, the longest jump in the world for 23 years.
&ldquo;Today I wanted over 8.50m but I didn&rsquo;t think I could jump so far,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;The pressure on me was good today and it was good competing against the top guys. I want to jump at this level for a long time, but it&rsquo;s early season so I will take it all step by step.&rdquo;
<h3>Duplantis notches first Diamond League win</h3>
The men&rsquo;s pole vault also saw a world champion defeated by a precocious teenager, the contest drawing the biggest cheer of the day from a sizeable Swedish crowd when 18-year-old Armand &lsquo;Mondo&rsquo; Duplantis soared up and over 5.86m at the first attempt.

Up until then, Sam Kendricks led Duplantis on countback and looked firmly in command, but the world champion&rsquo;s first-time failure put him on the back foot and rather than try a second time, he moved the bar up to 5.91m, at which he failed twice to bow out in second. Poland&rsquo;s Piotr Lisek took third on countback ahead of compatriot Pawel Wojciechowski, both clearing a best of 5.76m.
Duplantis failed once at 5.91m before moving the bar up to a meeting record height of 5.96m, but neither of his two attempts looked likely to succeed, not that he was anything less than delighted after rising to the occasion to record his first victory over Kendricks.
&ldquo;I finally beat Sam, which is a great big relief off my shoulders,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I couldn&rsquo;t have written this whole competition any better. It was the perfect day, the perfect place and the way I was jumping I felt really smooth. I know higher heights will come. It was a great victory but I can&rsquo;t stop there, now I have to go and win a couple more.&rdquo;
<h3>Dacres out-duels Gudzius</h3>
The men&rsquo;s discus produced the best contest in that discipline this year as Fedrick Dacres of Jamaica and Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania traded blows and pushed each other to lifetime bests.

The key round was the second one, where Gudzius seized command with a PB of 69.59m, a heave that would almost always prove good enough to win a Diamond League.
But not today, not when he was immediately followed by Dacres, who walked into the cage with a heavily strapped left knee after struggling with injury midweek and then fired a whopping 69.67m throw &ndash; a world lead, meeting record and Jamaican record.
&ldquo;I felt strong today,&rdquo; said Dacres, who could only manage 63.85m for eighth place in Oslo on Thursday. &ldquo;It was good to bounce back, but actually I think I could have done even better today.&rdquo;
Ehsan Hadadi of Iran took third with a best of 67.68m.
Britain&rsquo;s Lorraine Ugen took maximum points in the women&rsquo;s long jump by the smallest of margins, zero centimetres, winning on countback by jumping 6.85m on two occasions, a mark equalled by Germany&rsquo;s Malaika Mihambo, whose second best jump was 6.67m. In a competition of impressive depth, Canada&rsquo;s Christabel Nettey took third with 6.83m while Ivana Spanovic was fourth with 6.81m.

&ldquo;Because I was injured during the indoor season, I&rsquo;ve been struggling to find my rhythm &ndash; until today,&rdquo; said Ugen. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been injury-free for a while now so I&rsquo;m feeling better on the runway.&rdquo;
<h3>Lasitskene extends unbeaten streak to 42</h3>
Mariya Lasitskene continued her winning streak in the women&rsquo;s high jump, but the world champion faced a stiff challenge from Mirela Demireva, who soared higher than ever before when clearing 2.00m. However, when the pressure came on Lasitskene was once again peerless, clearing 2.00m at the first attempt to seal victory before three failures at 2.02m ended her competition.

Sandi Morris was a dominant winner of the women&rsquo;s pole vault, a non-scoring event here. The US vaulter cleared her opening three heights &ndash; 4.55m, 4.65m and 4.75m &ndash; at the first attempt to seal victory, then moved the bar up to 4.86m, a meeting record, which she cleared at the third attempt to win herself a diamond. Sweden&rsquo;s Angelica Bengtsson took second with a season&rsquo;s best of 4.65m.
&ldquo;My goal was to get that meeting record,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;It can be really hard to come overseas and perform, it&rsquo;s exhausting with flight delays so being able to perform to that calibre is a big deal.&rdquo;

Echevarria sails windy 8.83m in Stockholm - IAAF Diamond League

Andrew Pozzi produced the best performance of this weekend&rsquo;s British Indoor Championships in Sheffield (11-12).
Unbeaten this year, Pozzi stopped the clock at 7.44 in the 60m hurdles heats to equal the world-leading mark he set in Karlsruhe last Saturday. After some disqualifications for false starts and a subsequent delay to proceedings, Pozzi duly won the final in 7.51.
While the 24-year-old was disappointed not to run quicker in the final, his time was still faster than his pre-2017 lifetime best.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m really happy with the times I&rsquo;ve put together today, now the main aim is to try and win the championships in Belgrade,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve got the quick times under my belt, so it&rsquo;s about reproducing that type of form come the championships.&rdquo;
Three of Britain&rsquo;s best long jumpers opened their season at the British Indoor Championships. World indoor bronze medallist Lorraine Ugen took an early lead with 6.55m while European indoor pentathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson opened with 6.43m.
Both improved in the next round with Ugen leaping 6.58m to Johnson-Thompson&rsquo;s 6.54m. European silver medallist Jazmin Sawyers then entered the fray with a third-round jump of 6.54m. It prompted Johnson-Thompson to respond with 6.69m to take the lead while Ugen sailed out to 6.66m.
The positions remained the same throughout rounds four and five, but Ugen rounded out her series with a season&rsquo;s best of 6.72m to regain the lead. Johnson-Thompson&rsquo;s response of 6.68m wasn&rsquo;t quite enough to move back into first place.
<h3>Bosworth breaks record</h3>
Tom Bosworth, who finished sixth in the 20km race walk at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, smashed his own national indoor record for the 5000m race walk. He recorded consistent kilometre splits of 3:45 and increased his tempo for the final few laps to cross the line in 18:39.47, moving into the top 25 on the world indoor all-time list.
"I can only imagine what it will be like on the Mall in London (for the IAAF World Championships) this summer, I cannot wait," said Bosworth. "I am in a really good position&nbsp;&ndash; that was a world lead by some way but I knew I was capable of it. It's great to win a national title but it is about performing on the international stage."
Hurdles specialist Eilidh Doyle won a competitive 400m final. She had a slight lead at the bell and managed to hold off a strong challenge from twin sisters Laviai and Lina Nielsen on the second lap, crossing the line in 52.64. Laviai, the European junior champion, was second in 52.86, just 0.03 ahead of her sister. Phillipa Lowe was a close fourth in 52.99.
Asha Philip successfully defended her 60m title in 7.19, winning by 0.19, while Andrew Robertson won the men&rsquo;s short sprint in 6.57 ahead of Theo Etienne (6.59) and veteran Dwain Chambers (6.62). 2014 world indoor champion Richard Kilty was disqualified for a false start after qualifying fastest for the final with 6.62.
World finalist Shelayna Oskan-Clarke won the 800m in 2:03.54 while Guy Learmonth front-ran his way to victory in the men's race in 1:48.19.
Olympic 5000m finalist Eilish McColgan out-sprinted Stephanie Twell for the 3000m title, 9:05.07 to 9:05.30, and went on to finish second in the 1500m behind Sarah McDonald. European indoor silver medallist Lee Emanuel uncorked a final kilometre of 2:31.95 to win the men's 3000m in 7:55.91 as four other men finished within eight minutes.

Kirani James edged close rival Lashawn Merritt to take victory over 400m in a world-leading 44.08 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, USA, on Friday (29).
Despite cold and blustery conditions, James produced the second fastest 400m time ever run in the first four months of the year, behind only Michael Johnson&rsquo;s 43.75 from 1997, and his time was also a Drake Relays record.
For the 23-year-old Grenadian, it continued what has been a promising start to the year, having opened his season with a 44.36 run in Nassau two weeks ago.
In Friday night&rsquo;s race, James held a one-metre lead over Merritt as the pair turned into the home straight but, try as he might, it was a lead Merritt simply couldn&rsquo;t close on the run to the line.
Merritt finished runner-up in 44.22, the second fastest time in the world this year while James&rsquo;s fellow Grenadian, Bralon Taplin, finished third in 44.92, with USA's David Verburg fourth in 45.03.
In the women&rsquo;s long jump, Great Britain&rsquo;s Lorraine Ugen exacted some revenge on Brittney Reese, taking victory with a best of 6.82m. Ugen finished third at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland last month, an event won by the American, but this time around the Briton made best use of a strong tailwind (+3.5 m/s) to record her winning effort in the opening round.
With none of her six jumps aided by such a strong wind, Reese could only respond with a best of 6.74m in the third round. Chelsea Hayes was third with 6.32m, while Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare was well off her best in fourth, jumping a best of 6.25m.
<h3>Simpson makes impressive start</h3>
Former world champion Jenny Simpson made an impressive start to her season, powering away from the field in the women&rsquo;s 1500m to win in 4:06.44 ahead of fellow Americans Kate Grace and Heather Kampf, who were second and third in 4:07.15 and 4:07.26 respectively.
Off a steady early pace &ndash; the field passed 800m in 2:14.4 &ndash; Simpson used her renowned finishing kick to good effect down the home straight, recording a 61.97 final lap to hold off her rivals.
In the men&rsquo;s 400m hurdles, former world champion Bershawn Jackson opened his season with a 49.30 win over fellow Americans Michael Tinsley (49.36) and Kerron Clement (49.86). Jeffery Gibson, of the Bahamas, was fourth in 49.98, while two-time world silver medallist Javier Culson was well adrift of the pace, finishing seventh in 50.44.
In the men&rsquo;s pole vault, world champion Shawn Barber scored a narrow victory over Sam Kendricks, with both men managing a relatively modest 5.50m in the windy conditions.
However Barber went clear at his first attempt, while Kendricks did so on his second, which handed the Canadian victory on count-back.
Derek Drouin won the men&rsquo;s high jump in similar fashion, his best clearance being at 2.24m, the same height cleared by runner-up Bryan McBride, who lost out due to an earlier failure at 2.14m.
World indoor champion Michelle Carter was handed a surprise defeat in the women&rsquo;s shot put, managing a best of just 18.72m, which was good enough only for second behind winner Tia Brooks, who equalled her personal best with 19.37m in the fifth round.
<h3>Penn State and Villanova supreme at Penn Relays</h3>
At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the college distance events&nbsp;proved the highlights on the second day of competition on Friday, with Penn State taking the men&rsquo;s title and Villanova the women&rsquo;s.
Penn State&rsquo;s anchor runner Brandon Kinner ran a 4:00.77 1600m leg in the men's distance medley relay to hand his college victory in 9:35.51 ahead of Georgetown, who were second in 9:36.32.
In the women&rsquo;s 4x1500m, Villanova's Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner unleashing a strong kick on the anchor leg (4:21.7) to hand them victory in 17:44.29, just coming home ahead of the University of Oregon who were second in 17:44.67.
The high school distance medley relay&nbsp;provided the finish of the day as Loudon Valley of Virginia edged victory by one thousandth of a second from La Salle, Rhode Island, with both teams credited with a time of 10:00.00. Their star performer was Drew Hunter, who split 4:00.73 on the anchor 1600m leg, the second fastest high school 1600m leg in Penn Relays history behind Alan Webb's 3:59.9.&nbsp;
The University of Florida was a dominant winner of the sprint men&rsquo;s sprint medley relay, their quartet&rsquo;s winning time of 3:16.87 leaving them well clear of runner-up BYU (3:16.87). The University of Oregon were equally dominant in the women&rsquo;s event, taking a decisive victory in 3:46.40 ahead of Clemson (3:50.62).
Earlier in the day, the Oregon women were also successful in the college 4x100m in 43.44, with Tennessee second in 43.72.
In the high school events, Jamaican school Edwin Allen once again asserted their dominance over their American rivals, taking victory in the high school girls&rsquo; 4x100m in 45.73. They made it a double later in the day, winning the high school girls&rsquo; 4x400m in 3:40.88 ahead of their compatriots and rivals St. Elizabeth Tech, who were second in 3:41.17.&nbsp;
The Penn Relays action continues on Saturday for what is the&nbsp;third and final day of competition.&nbsp;

After a surprisingly indifferent string of results in recent weeks, Canada&rsquo;s world pole vault champion Shawn Barber returned to form in front of a capacity crowd at the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix, which hosted the fourth leg of the IAAF World Indoor Tour, and went over 5.89m on Saturday (20). Thiago Braz, who went over a South American record of 5.93m in Berlin a week ago, surprisingly left the competition at 5.77m, the Brazilian scraping over at his opening height of 5.60m on his third attempt. By contrast, Barber looked imperious clearing 5.77m and 5.89m on his first attempts before three solid attempts at what would have been a national record of 6.01m. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a great feeling to come out here and jump well,&rdquo; said Barber, who is advised by retired six metre-plus vaulter and 1999 world indoor silver medallist Jeff Hartwig. The American was in the stands on the far side of the arena watching his charge in action.&ldquo;It is the biggest year you could ask for; we have the World Indoor Championships next month and it&rsquo;s Olympic year so hopefully it is going to come together,&rdquo; added Barber, who also finished second in Karlsruhe and in Boston earlier this month, the first and second stops of the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Tour.Barber was already confirmed as the overall winner of the men&rsquo;s pole vault on the tour but he won&rsquo;t have too much time to celebrate this feat. He is travelling to Clermont in France where a head-to-head with Olympic champion and local star Renaud Lavillenie beckons tomorrow afternoon. Lorraine Ugen also sealed a tour win in the long jump, courtesy of a victory in a largely domestic battle.Ugen finished fifth at the IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015 to Shara Proctor&rsquo;s second but the 24-year-old has now beaten her more esteemed compatriot twice in the space of four days. Having finished second in Stockholm with 6.71m on her season&rsquo;s opener, Ugen surpassed that mark with an indoor best of 6.80m in the fifth round but Proctor didn&rsquo;t give up without a fight. She followed Ugen&rsquo;s decisive jump with 6.76m in the fifth round and 6.72m in the final round.<h3>Schippers delivers, Safo-Antwi surprises</h3>Dafne Schippers duly extended her winning streak in the build-up to the World Indoor Championships, where the Dutchwoman will start as the commanding favourite to add the 60m title there to her world 200m title from Beijing last summer.Schippers didn&rsquo;t get out of the blocks particularly well in the final but she cut through the field in the last 30 metres to claim victory in 7.10 ahead of world 200m silver medallist Elaine Thompson from Jamaica, who had to settle for second behind Schippers again on her indoor debut in 7.14.Kim Collins said in Stockholm he was capable of running under 6.50 this winter and such a time looked on the cards based on his heat in which he posted a season&rsquo;s best of 6.51.But two races in the space of an afternoon might have taken their toll on the 39-year-old. He pulled up with cramp in the final and had to be stretchered off the track. With Collins limping through the line, British sprinters took first and second through Sean Safo-Antwi and Richard Kilty in 6.56 and 6.57 respectively. The winner might not be a particularly well-known name internationally but Safo-Antwi has lowered his best to 6.55 and is unbeaten in seven races this winter.US sprinter Mike Rodgers finished third in 6.60 but sealed the overall win in this event. Kendra Harrison claimed her second win of the tour in the women&rsquo;s 60m hurdles in another fast time of 7.92 but the overall series win went to world indoor champion Nia Ali, who finished second in 7.98.Even though Ali has lost both of her races against Harrison, the 27-year-old topped the rankings by virtue of three runner-up finishes which brings her tally to 21 points to Harrison&rsquo;s 20 points. The favourites in the men&rsquo;s 60m hurdles came to grief. After a great start, Yordan O&rsquo;Farrill clattered the first hurdle with his trail leg and finished seventh in 7.82 while French record-holder and world leader Dimitri Bascou suffered a similar demise over the last flight and stumbled through the line in third in 7.71.China&rsquo;s Xie Wenjun didn&rsquo;t succumb to any such mishaps and claimed a surprise win in 7.63.<h3>Maslak survives fast start to win the 400m</h3>Aggressive tactics were on show in the men&rsquo;s 400m with Pavel Maslak, Chris Brown and Rusheen McDonald racing for the front. The halfway point was reached in a scintillating 20.58 with Brown stubbornly holding the inside line ahead of a competitive Maslak, who overhauled the veteran on the top bend of the second lap. Maslak, who will be defending his world indoor title in Portland next month, powered to a season&rsquo;s best of 46.02 while Brown and McDonald succumbed badly to the lactic, finishing fourth (46.80) and sixth (49.38) respectively.In the women&rsquo;s equivalent, indoor newcomer Stephenie-Ann McPherson from Jamaica recovered from a knock on the final bend to overhaul home favourite Seren Bundy-Davies, 52.05 to 52.10.Lisanne De Witte from the Netherlands finished quickly to claim third place in a lifetime best of 52.49, which was enough to top the overall tour standings in this event thanks to her win in Stockholm on Wednesday. Elsewhere, Omar Craddock sealed top spot in the triple jump standings courtesy of back-to-back wins in Boston and Glasgow. After opening his season with 16.82m last Sunday, he set the best mark of this competition in the fourth round with 16.93m.Lavern Spencer and Alessia Trost both cleared 1.93m in the high jump and shared the honours on the day. When it comes to wind-assistance, it is definitely possible to have too much of a good thing.Athletes competing at the Texas Relays found that out the hard way as dozens of performances were deemed invalid for official purposes with the wind exceeding the allowable 2.0m/s.Nevertheless, it didn&rsquo;t detract from the exciting contests across the many events.Japanese teenager Yoshihide Kiryu provided one of the biggest surprises of the day. Just minutes after world junior 100m record-holder Trayvon Bromell clocked 9.90 (3.3m/s) to win the collegiate final, world junior bronze medallist Kiryu went one better with a 9.87 (3.3m/s) victory in the invitational race.Kiryu, who holds the world youth best of 10.19 and the Asian junior record of 10.05, finished 0.02 ahead of Clayton Vaughn with sub-10-second sprinters Charles Silmon (9.91) and Mark Jelks (9.96) taking third and fourth.The 19-year-old&rsquo;s time is the fastest ever electronic performance by an Asian sprinter under any conditions. Bromell, meanwhile, had recorded a wind-legal and world-leading 10.02 (-0.1m/s) in the heats one day prior.Trinidad and Tobago&rsquo;s Michelle-Lee Ahye was similarly impressive &ndash; and assisted by wind &ndash; in the women&rsquo;s event. The 22-year-old won comfortably in 10.87 (3.3m/s).The fast times continued later in the day as South Africa&rsquo;s world and Olympic finalist Anaso Jobodwana produced his fastest ever 200m clocking under any conditions. The double World University Games champion stopped the clock at 19.87, helped by a 4.5m/s tailwind.<h3>Barber breaks record</h3>Having broken his own national indoor record four times earlier this year, Canadian pole vaulter Shawn Barber continued where he left off in his first outdoor competition of 2015.He shared the lead with regular rival Sam Kendricks up to 5.60m, but Kendricks got over 5.70m on his first try. Barber passed to 5.80m, which Kendricks also cleared on his first attempt while Barber needed two tries, as did Jake Blankenship.Barber again passed the next height, 5.85m, while Kendricks and Blankenship exited the competition with three failures each. Barber then got over 5.90m on his second attempt before rounding out his series with three unsuccessful attempts at 6.00m.Down in sixth, Britain&rsquo;s Adam Hague equalled the world age-17 best of 5.60m, breaking his own national junior record in the process.<h3>Ugen and Duffield dominate jumps</h3>Lorraine Ugen, the 2013 NCAA champion, leapt farther than she ever had done before in the long jump, winning with a wind-assisted 6.96m (5.8m/s). With a series that also included jumps of 6.71m, 6.84m and 6.73m, any one of those marks would have been enough to win.USA&rsquo;s 2009 world youth shot put champion Ryan Crouser was another easy winner. His winning heave of 21.11m was more than a metre farther than any other competitor managed.The other stand-out performer on the infield was Jacorian Duffield, who added four centimetres to his outdoor PB to win the high jump with 2.31m.Two-time NCAA Championships silver medallist Michael Stigler enjoyed a breakthrough in the 400m hurdles.
