Cuban triple jumper Lazaro Martinez became the second athlete of the championships to successfully defend their title.
The best young athletes from nearly 200 countries will soon be on their way to Eugene for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, which begin in exactly one week’s time on 22 July.
Yorgelis Rodriguez will defend her heptathlon title later this summer at the IAAF World Junior Championships, which is being held in Eugene, Oregon, on 22-27 July.
World silver medallist Pedro Pablo Pichardo leapt to 17.71m in the triple jump to produce the highest note of the Cuban Championships, held on 18-20 March at Havana’s Estadio Panamericano.
The action came thick and fast on the penultimate evening session at the 2013 IAAF World Youth Championships, as Lazaro Martinez’s championship record-equalling leap in the Triple Jump was one of several highlights.
The first gold medals of the 2013 IAAF World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, will be decided in the boys’ Shot on the evening of 10 July, while the morning session of day one will be buzzing with action both on the track and on the in-field.
