At the age of just 25, Leo Neugebauer has already left his mark on the world of combined events.

The German record-holder in the decathlon with a whopping 8961 points secured silver at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is aiming to repeat that medal-winning performance at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.

Neugebauer sat down with World Athletics+ to talk about his love for the sport, social media and how he is trying to give back to the sport and its fans.

Road to Tokyo – Leo Neugebauer

"A really solid overall decathlon in Tokyo – I would be really happy with that. Just a solid transition into the professional life, because going from collegiate – what I am really used to – to a professional life, it’s a lot different," he said.

"That’s the goal – what would make the season really good.

"What I want to do is spread the decathlon, like what we do. Many people don’t know what the decathlon is, that are outside of track and field. Having exposure and trying to put that into showing people what we do and that we are really good at what we do – that’s my goal.

"I’m so thankful for everybody who comes up and asks for a picture because I don’t take it for granted. That I can be an inspiration to somebody is a great honour."
