Douglas Wakiihuri (born September 26, 1963 in Mombasa) is a former Kenyan marathon runner who won gold at the 1987 World Championships in Athletics in Rome.

Until 2007, when Luke Kibet became a global champion, no other male Kenyan runner had ever won a marathon in a World Championships or Olympic Games. Wakiihuri finished second to Gelindo Bordin in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, winning a silver medal.

Wakiihuri won the London Marathon in 1989. He won the New York Marathon in 1990. During races, Wakiihuri was known for wearing white gloves. He now owns and operates a marathon fitness and training facility.

The IAAF (now World Athletics) World U18 Championships concluded on July 16, 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. Kenya had clearly demonstrated its capabilities to organize a major athletics event after holding a successful championship. The tournament attracted a record 60,000 fans on each of the final two days of the five-day worldwide extravaganza. This was the largest crowd ever seen at a World U18 Athletics Championship.

The electrifying atmosphere at Kasarani provided the ideal setting for the young track and field stars to demonstrate what they can bring to the sport in the years ahead. Kenya has indicated interest in hosting the World U20 Championship this year after a successful World U18 Championship.

The tournament will be held in Kenya from August 17 to 22, 2021, in a country with a rich athletics heritage and a population that enjoys track and field activities.
