55 Days to Go

Kenya has roughly 42 tribes, each with its own language and culture, which blend together to form a unique blend of Kenyan culture. Because the largest six tribes account for over half of Kenya's population, their people have a greater influence on Kenyan culture.

Kenya's many ethnicities have resulted in an intriguing blend of traditional garments and apparel. Most people have their own unique style of attire, which adds to the intrigue. Cultural attitudes and behaviors fluctuate from person to person. Traditional marriage rites are important events for all Kenya tribes, however each one has its own distinct flavor.

A great example of unique cultures is the Maasai beadwork.

Kenya's Maasai people are well-known for their unique handcrafted beaded jewelry, which has long been an integral aspect of Maasai culture. Maasai women set aside time almost every day to make beaded jewelry, such as colorful necklaces, bracelets, and pendants. Every Maasai woman is expected to learn how to make jewelry as a matter of course.

Beadwork is traditionally done by women, yet it is worn by both sexes and has significant cultural importance. A person's age and social position are reflected in the beading they wear.
