Men Javelin Throw Final

Poland’s Igor Janik had this event sewn up from the start as he threw the winning distance of 74.16 metres with his very first attempt and was unable to improve on this distance with his remaining five attempts, the last of which he fouled.

But that first big throw was all it took to win by a narrow margin of 7 centimetres from Russia’s Vladislav Shkurlatov, who improved to a personal best of 74.09 metres with his first throw to take silver ahead of Korea’s Sang-Jin Jung, who was the bronze medallist thanks to his first effort of 73.99 metres, once again a personal best.
