Following the revision of Jiri Sykora’s second-round mark of 7.35m, which was originally listed as 7.98m and corrected during the lunchtime break between the shot put and high jump, Belarusian Yury Yaremich led proceedings with an impressive 7.80m with a tail wind of 2.1m/s, the longest jump ever produced by a decathlete in the history of the IAAF World Junior Championships.

Australia’s Cedric Dubler leapt a wind-legal 7.74m, a massive 24cm longer than the previous best for a decathlete at the championships.

Two other athletes surpassed the previous mark: Russia’s 2013 European junior champion Evgeniy Likhanov with 7.72m and Norway’s 2013 world youth champion Karsten Warholm with 7.53m.

After the revision of Sykora’s long jump mark, Warholm retained his lead with 1905 points, only four ahead of Dubler. Yaremich moved up to the third spot in the standings with 1888, 40 more than Likhanov.

World junior leader Sykora of the Czech Republic trails in fifth with 1776 points.
