Women Medley Relay final
The United States of America’s team established a new World Youth all-time best in the medley relay here in Debrecen.
With an impressive line-up it looked like the USA would be ensured of victory in this relay, which was composed of a 100m-200m-300m-400m legs. And so it was.
Bronze 100m hurdles medallist Ashley Lodree assured the first 100m and passed the baton on to World 100m Champion Allyson Felix who ran the 200m section today. Another two World Youth Champions were to conclude the relay for the USA, Angel Perkins – who won the 200m earlier today – running an impressive and decisive 300m leg and Stephanie Smith, World 400m Champion two days ago here in Debrecen, anchoring the American relay to an outstanding finish time of 2:03.83.
Jamaica who was the only team to seem able to contrast the USA’s dominance today until the third change over finished second in a distant 2:07.45. World Youth 100m silver medallist Kerron Stewart who ran in second position offered a good challenge but by the time Kashalin Page had passed the baton on to 400m bronze medallist Anneisha McLaughlin, the Americans had already built up a lead of 10 metres.
The bronze medal was awarded to Romania, Ioana Ciurila making the difference in the fourth and last leg.
