Kids' Day
Rimi Kids’ Day will kick off the World Road Running Championships in Riga on the morning of September 30th at 10:00 AM at the Freedom Monument. Registration for Rimi Kids’ Day is now open, less than two months before the actual World Athletics Road Running Championships, which will make its debut on October 1st.
Rimi Kids’ Day will include courses for kids, including the Babies Course, 200m, and 400m distances, which will be free of charge. However, for the 50m sprint distance (“the Sprint King and Queen”) there will be a symbolic registration fee, so young participants can receive race bibs with chips to record their finishing times and find out who is the fastest sprinter.
Parents are encouraged to register their kids for the Rimi Kids’ Day without delay, as registration will be closed once the participant count reaches the limit of 5000.
The World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga will be the most significant sports and athletics event in the history of the Baltic States. The Championships are a first ever running festival that will not only crown World Champions in the Road Mile, five kilometres, and half-marathon distances but also bring together thousands of recreational runners, kids, and families from Latvia and 100 other countries.
“Rimi Kids’ Day is a tradition-rich running event for families with children, where young runners can have fun and lay the foundation for daily physical activities. It is an honour for us to kick off the World Athletics Road Running Championships, which bring together the youngest runners, running enthusiasts, and the world’s top athletes competing for the world champion titles. Such events for families with children demonstrate that anything is possible when you embrace the joy of movement from an early age and promote it in everyday life.
Inga Bite, PR Manager of Rimi Latvia
Rimi Kids' Day Program
Rimi Kids’ Day will be opened at 10:00 AM at the Freedom Monument with the shortest distances. For the youngest (0-3 years), we will offer the Babies Course, while slightly older children (4-12 years) can participate in the 200m and 400m distances and compete in the 50m sprint distance.
Participation in the 200m, 400m, and Babies Course of Rimi Kids’ Day is free of charge. The participation fee for the 50m sprint distance is 3 EUR. All finishers of Rimi Kids’ Day distances will receive the official World Athletics Road Running Championships medals designed by Maija Rozenfelde, inspired by the painting “Man Entering a Room” by the Latvian artist Niklāvs Strunke.
“Undoubtedly, during our thirteen years of cooperation with our long-time partner Rimi, we have nurtured a new generation of runners in Latvia, creating one of the most significant kids' running event traditions in Europe. I am proud that we are introducing Kids' Day at the World Championships, showing the world how to involve the young generation, families with children, and inspire the youngest in sports.
Aigars Nords, head of the organizing committee of the World Championships
