The decision to pursue the hosting rights was anchored in significant national strategic objectives. The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) identified a critical need for a major global athletics event to coincide with the nation's upcoming 60th anniversary celebrations. Furthermore, the bid was strategically designed to leverage the power of sports tourism, attracting international visitors and media attention to Botswana. This successful bid also aims to cement Botswana’s status as an emerging powerhouse in global athletics, a reputation solidified by Botswana’s senior men’s 4x400m team's historic victory at the World Athletics Relays in The Bahamas in May 2024.
