The local organising committee (LOC) of the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 and World Athletics today (20) announced that the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) – the country’s leading provider – has signed on as the event’s main sponsor.

Valued at BSD 300,000, the sponsorship highlights BTC's commitment to promoting excellence in sports.

The Honorable Zane Lightbourne, the Acting Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, joined officials from BTC and the LOC during the press conference today.

“This partnership represents more than just money. It speaks to the everlasting power of sport to elevate both our culture and our economy,” said Minister Lightbourne. “Showcasing our country successfully on the world stage requires a collaborative effort from the government, corporations like BTC, and the media. We look forward to helping coordinate this event, which is so inspiring for athletes and fans alike.”

Company CEO Sameer Bhatti said: “BTC is elated to support the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24. This demonstrates our commitment to national development, progress and economic growth. Through this partnership, we will collectively place the country on the world stage. We wish the athletes the best of luck, and we look forward to welcoming our local athletes back home and working with the local organising committee.”

In response to BTC's generosity, the local organising committee expressed its deep appreciation to the company. "On behalf of the LOC and World Athletics, we are delighted to welcome BTC as our main sponsor and extend our sincere gratitude for their generous sponsorship of the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24,” said Drumeco Archer, LOC Chief Executive Officer. “This partnership comes at a critical stage in planning. It will help ensure a highly successful event for the world-class athletes that will compete in Nassau ahead of the Paris Olympics.”

He added: “Their contribution will allow us to improve the World Relays experience for athletes, fans and viewers worldwide. Thanks to the support of BTC, we will deliver an unforgettable weekend that combines a world-class sporting event with Bahamian hospitality.”

Scheduled to take place on 4-5 May, the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 will bring together top-performing athletes from more than 50 countries. The relays will be held at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium and will act as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

With less than 50 days to go, tickets are selling fast. The public is urged to buy their seats now as the organisers anticipate a sold-out crowd. Tickets can be purchased at www.worldrelaysbahamas24.org.
