The Thomas A. Robinson Stadium is named after Thomas A. Robinson, an Olympic sprinter for The Bahamas whose first medal was in 1956. The Thomas A. Robinson Stadium is considered a jewel of the Caribbean. This $30million, state-of-the-art facility was rebuilt next to the original 1981 track (now called the OldTAR).
The Thomas A. Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in the 450–acre Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre. It is used for sporting, cultural and entertainment events and other recreational activities. The core focus is sports tourism, social, cultural and economic development and there are entrepreneurial opportunities available.
The 15,000-seat stadium is a gift to The Bahamas from the People’s Republic of China, and was dedicated 25 February 2012 by the former Bahamian Prime Minister, Hubert Ingraham.
The 190,452 square-foot stadium features covered chair-back seating on two sides (Western and Eastern Grandstands), with seating for disabled spectators, broadcast/coaches/game operations booths, a natural grass field for American football and soccer, a World Athletics-certified track surface and much more. Renovations to the stadium, including a new class 1 track press centre and media centre were completed in May 2014.
