Women's 60m semifinals

Bulgaria's Petya Pendareva qualified superbly for the 60m final, running a world leading 7.04 in heat 1. Reacting with a near-perfect 0.116 seconds to the gun, Pendareva accelerated smoothly to increase her lead over the Endurance Ojokolo and stop the clock at 7.04. Ojokolo ran a season's best of 7.13 to book a place in the final.

In the second heat, Angela Williams seemed to have something in reserve as she dashed to victory in 7.10 - a personal best. Yet again, the second qualifying place went to a Nigerian, Mercy Nku, who clocked 7.15, after a bullet start.

Bahamian Chandra Sturrup was close to her pb of 7.10, outdipping the fast starting Chryste Gaines. Sturrup clocked 7.11, and the US Team Captain 7.12.

Both fastest losers came from the first heat, with Sevatheda Fynes joining her Bahamian team-mate in the final after running 7.16, while China's Xuemei Li's national record of 7.19, was also enough to get her to the final.
