Team USA Announced for World HalfMarathon Championships in Brussels
25 April 2002 - Indianapolis - USA Track & Field today announced the USA teams for the 11th IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships, to be hosted by Brussels, Belgium on Sunday, May 5. Team USA has a combination of youth and experience led by 1996 Olympian Linda Somers Smith and last year's top U.S. male finisher in the race, Scott Larson. Adding experience and speed to the men's team is the former American record holder in the marathon, David Morris.

Below are the five-member U.S. men and women's teams with their best half-marathon performances:

Kim Pawelek, 28, Jacksonville Beach, FL 1:12:48 ('00)
Rosa Gutierrez, 38, Glendale, OR            1:13:17 ('01)

Women's team leader is Ray Lapinski of Derby, CT; Charlie Mahler of Duluth, MN leads the men. Stephanie Hart of Taunton, MA is the team trainer.
