European champion Irina Korzhanenko of Russia dominated the Women’s Shot Put from start to finish tonight with a best performance of 20.20m.

Any of her three legal throws (19.58-20.20-20.15) would have earned her victory today as second place finisher Yumileidi Cumba (CUB), representing the Americas,  could only manage 19.14m.

Former World and Olympic champion Astrid Kumbernuss (GER) who was fourth in Munich finished third with 19.11m and was one of only two athletes to record four legal throws.

Runner-up to Korzhanenko at this year’s European Championships, veteran Vita Pavlysh (EUR) was fourth with a very poor performance of 19.06m at her last attempt after a 17.41m opener and two fouls.

No other competitor threw over the 19-metre line.
