As expected, Caterine Ibarguen of Colombia took top honours in the triple jump, the first woman to ever take the World Cup or Continental Cup triple jump title for the Americas.

Leading from her modest 14.30m in the opening round – a jump that would have held up for the win – the world champion improved with each round, reaching 14.43m with her second leap and 14.52m with her third.

With the victory secured, the 30-year-old passed on her fourth and final attempt.

“I am tired and the weather was a little challenging, but I am delighted to have achieved top points and Colombia’s first win at this event,” said Ibarguen, whose victory was her 20th straight win.

Behind her the results were quite modest, with Russia’s world indoor champion Ekaterina Koneva second with 14.27m and Ukraine’s European champion Olga Saladukha third with 14.26m to give Europe 13 points in the event.

Jamaica’s Kimberly Williams finished fourth at 13.93m for five points, coupled with Ibarguen’s eight for 13 points as well for the Americas.
