Day-by-day guide to the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25

There’s one year to go to the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, and so much to look forward to.

The World Athletics Championships is one of the most prestigious international sporting events in the world and it returns to Japan in 2025, with nine days of competition taking place from 13-21 September.

Whether you’re planning which tickets you’d like to secure or want to get a head start on knowing when your favourite athletes might be competing, here’s a day-by-day guide to mark the one year to go milestone.

Day one – Saturday 13 September

Morning 
Kick off the championships with the men’s and women’s 35km race walks, starting and finishing right in the stadium.

Evening
Witness the women’s 10,000m final and the popular 4x400m mixed relay.

Day two – Sunday 14 September

Morning 
Don’t miss the women’s marathon in the heart of the city. 

Evening 
The 100m double-header! Who will be crowned the fastest man and woman in the world?

Day three – Monday 15 September

Morning 
Another marathon, this time for the men – with an epic start and finish in the stadium. 

Evening 
Can we expect another world record? The men’s pole vault final might just deliver!

Day four – Tuesday 16 September

Evening 
High jump enthusiasts, this one’s for you. Plus, the men’s 110m hurdles – who will take home the gold?

Day five – Wednesday 17 September

Evening 
A fierce battle in the men’s 1500m that could offer a rematch between Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Josh Kerr and Olympic champion Cole Hocker.

Day six – Thursday 18 September

Evening 
The 400m finals will reveal who’s the fastest over one lap – don’t miss out.

Day seven – Friday 19 September

Evening 
An evening to remember with the 200m finals and the 400m hurdles, which promise an epic showdown – could we see a Sydney vs. Femke rematch? Home favourite Haruka Kitaguchi is set to get her campaign under way in javelin qualification.

Day eight – Saturday 20 September

Morning 
Starting and finishing in the stadium, not to be missed are the 20km race walk events for men and women, where fans could be cheering for Koki Ikeda and Toshikazu Yamanishi, Olympic medallists on home soil in 2021.

Evening 
It could be home star Haruka Kitaguchi’s final in the women’s javelin, as she defends her title and looks to complete an Olympic and world double. Plus, the 800m usually brings up the heat!

Day nine – Sunday 21 September

Morning 
The men’s decathlon is always a fan favourite – who will emerge as the best all-round athlete?

Evening 
Closing night! Witness the grand finale with nine gold medals up for grabs – a spectacular end to an incredible championships!
