From 24-28 October 2022 top broadcasters came together in Budapest for the World Broadcaster Meeting (WBM) organised by World Athletics Productions (WAP) and the Local Organising Committee of the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023 to discuss broadcast plans for the event.

The WBM represents a major milestone in the preparations of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), , with all broadcast organisations planning their operations.

During the plenary session the LOC and WAP presented their plans and the current status of their work for the host broadcast. The Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) then were taken on a venue tour, where the new National Athletics Centre (still under construction) was presented. The state-of-the-art facility is taking its final shape: the crown of the queen of sports. Following the world championships, the stadium will be the prime facility of athletics in central Europe.

The RHBs also had the opportunity to explore the city of Budapest, including the marathon and race walk routes, which run alongside the city’s iconic landmarks.

“Our vision is clear: we want to get the best possible stage for the World Athletics Championships in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The athletes, spectators, beauty shots of Budapest and the brand new National Athletics Centre are just some of what is needed to tell the Budapest23 story” - said Balázs Németh, CEO of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

James Lord, Director of Broadcast at World Athletics added: “All the facts lead to a fantastic World Championships next year. And to have this wonderful brand new stadium which is perfect I must say. It’s been a privilege to show broadcasters around this week. I genuinely believe we collectively have the opportunity to deliver something that we have never done before. For me it’s exactly what I want to achieve.”

The World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023 will take place between 19-27 August 2023. The pinnacle event of athletics will come to central Europe for the first time.
