Nemzeti Atlétikai Központ Családi Nyitónap, június 17.

A festive opening ceremony for the park with fun programmes and sports activities for the whole family: the National Athletics Centre, Budapest's new sports and leisure park, which will also host the World Athletics Championships, will open on 17 June. Visitors to the opening day can tour the entire facility - including areas that will be closed to the public - and even step onto and compete on the brand new, specially surfaced running track, where the world's best athletes will compete for medals in August.

The National Athletics Centre will be the venue for a family festival for people from Budapest and all over the country. On 17 June, a free all-day event will celebrate the rebirth of the former brownfield site.

Following the official opening of the park, a veritable cavalcade of activities will take place. Those who want to get moving will be able to learn about athletics in a playful way, as many have already done in the past at the World Championships' Everyday Hero series of events. It gives everyone the chance to experience what it is like to push their limits.

The opening day's running events are set to be a special treat, with races ranging from the 100m flat to the 4.5km on the brand new track at the National Athletics Centre, where athletics superheroes will be competing in August.

Anyone can experience the atmosphere of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest through the eyes of athletes.

On the opening day on 17 June, the National Athletics Centre will be unveiled to the public in the true sense of the word: it will open and give visitors the chance to experience the cheering from the stands, but also to explore parts of the facility that are normally closed to fans. On the special day, they will even be able to enter the rooms where the athletics superheroes will be preparing for perhaps the most important event of their lives, the World Championships final, in the moments before the start.

For the first time, visitors will be able to admire Budapest's new 10.5-hectare park, which has been a disgrace to the city in a beautiful location on the banks of the Danube, opposite the Kopaszi Dam, which have been spectacularly restored for years.

Admission and activities will be free for all.
