Here are the nominees for the Women's and Men's Athlete of the Year Awards

Women's and Men’s World Athlete of the Year 2022 Nominees

On Wednesday and Thursday, the World Athletics Federation announced the shortlist of ten male and ten female athletes out of whom the winners of the Men's and Women's Athlete of the Year 2022 award winners will be selected.

The nominees were chosen by a group of international experts. The shortlist will be narrowed down to five after the voting closes on 31 October, with finally one athlete taking home the prestigious award.

The result of the vote will be divided into three parts, with fans of the sport able to vote for the athlete they think deserves the award. They can do this by liking a photo of their favourite athlete on World Athletics' social media platforms

Women's Athlete of the Year 2022, the nominees are (in alphabetical order):

Tobi Amusan (Nigeria): the recent world champion and world record holder of the 100m hurdles, who has won the Commonwealth Games and the African Championships, as well as the Diamond League.

Chase Ealey (USA): World shot put champion and world indoor shot put silver medallist, Diamond League winner, holder of the world-leading throw this year (20.51 m).

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica): Won her fifth World Championships gold medal in the 100m, unbeaten in the Diamond League. She has run seven times under 10.70 seconds - once at the Gyulai István Memorial - and with a world-leading time of 10.62.

Kimberly García (Peru): by winning the world 20km and 35km race walk champion titles, she won Peru's first and second World Championships medals.

Shericka Jackson (Jamaica): With 21.45 seconds, the second fastest 200m ever, she became world champion and later won the Diamond League. In between, she also finished first in the half-lap at the Gyulai Memorial Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix.

Faith Kipyegon (Kenya): World 1500m champion and Diamond League winner, who was just three tenths short of the world record this year (3:50.37).

Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine): Gold medallist at the World Indoor Championships and silver medallist at the World Championships in the high jump. She won the European Champion title in Munich. She jumped 2.05m at the outdoor meeting.

Sydney McLaughlin (USA): World 400m hurdles and 4x400m champion with the US relay team. She broke the world 400m hurdles record first with 51.41 then with 50.68. At her last race of the year, the Gyulai István Memorial, she clocked 51.68, the fastest 400m hurdles ever run in Europe.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo (Bahamas): She won both the world indoor and outdoor championships in the 400m and was unbeatable at the North and Central American Championships.

Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela): she has won both the indoor and outdoor world championships and now holds the world triple jump record with 15.74m. Winner of the Diamond League.

Kristjan Ceh (Slovenia): recent world discus champion and European Championships silver medallist, Diamond League winner, Slovenian national record holder with 71.27 metres

Alison dos Santos (Brazil): World 400m hurdles champion and Diamond League winner, his 46.29 seconds South American record is world leading this year.

Armand "Mondo" Duplantis (Sweden): In the pole vault he won the World Indoor and Outdoor Championships as well as the European Championships, while improved his own world record to 6.19m and 6.20m indoors, and then 6.21m outdoors.

Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco): World 3000m steeplechase champion and Diamond League winner, unbeaten in 2022. His 7:58.28 is world leading in the season.

Grant Holloway (USA): he won the world 60 m hurdles indoor and 110 m hurdles outdoor titles this year, and also the Diamond League trophy.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway): World Championship gold medal in the 5000m, silver medal in the 1500m. After the European Championships 2018 in Berlin, he did the 1500-5000m double again in Munich. He became Diamond League 1500m champion with a world leading time of 3:29.02.

Eliud Kipchoge (Kenya): Won both marathons he attended this year, setting a meeting record in Tokyo and a new world record of 2:01:09 in Berlin.

Noah Lyles (USA): World Championships gold and Diamond League trophy in the 200m, making him the third fastest sprinter of all time with a splendid time of 19.31 seconds.

Anderson Peters (Grenada): Won the javelin at the World Championships and went on to win silver at the Commonwealth Games. His world leading personal best of 93.07 metres moved him up to fifth on the world all-time list.

Pedro Pichardo (Portugal): Winner of both the World and European Outdoor Championships in the triple jump, silver medallist at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. His leap of 17.95 metres is world leading this year.
