Gold MedallistKIPKETER, Wilson (DEN) |
"Okay it probably didn't look like it on television but I knew I was going to catch Sepeng. The only trouble was that time was running out and I didn't know if I would make it before the line. In the first lap there was a lot of pushing and I lost my rhythm. I didn't know if I had won until I saw it on the giant stadium screen. I'm now going to party with the other Danes. This medal is worth the same as all my others" |
Silver Medallist - SEPENG, Hezekiel (RSA) |
"I wanted to stay with Kipketer and then hopefully head him before the home straight. I thought that if I was a head and pushed hard I might get Kipketer into trouble by putting him under pressure. My aim is now to improve my personal best and with that achieved take the gold in Sydney next year." |
Bronze Medallist - SAID-GUERNI, Djabir (ALG) |
"I'm new in these high level surroundings. I was 19
years when I saw Kipketer win in Athens (1997). I decided then that I wanted to run like
him. I started running like this in the earlier rounds and it has paid off for me again in
the final." |
