Powell pushed hard by Frater - Jamaican Championships

World 100m recordholder Asafa Powell booked his trip to the World Championships in Helsinki in August by capturing the 100m crown here on Saturday (25 June) at the Jamaican Championships.

Powell, the Overall IAAF World Ranked number one, who set the World record of 9.77 in Athens on 14 June, captured the Jamaican final in 10.04, with Michael Frater close on his heels, second in 10.05 and Dwight Thomas claiming the last Helsinki spot in 10.08.

Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell captured the women's 100m crown in 10.97 seconds, the same time as runner-up Sherone Simpson. Aleen Bailey was third in 11.18.
