MonteCarloOf the total of 158 IAAF Member Federations who took part in IAAF World Athletics Day 2007 (12 – 13 May), 131 submitted their results by the deadline, and accordingly their event winning boys and girls (born 1990 and 1991) were entered for the traditional IAAF World Athletics Day Draw which took place this year in Monte-Carlo on Monday 18 June.
From these national winners, the names of twelve lucky children - one boy and one girl for each of the IAAF Areas - were drawn out and have been invited to the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan (25 August-2 September 2007), with their travel and full board accommodation costs covered by the IAAF.
The second year, six youths (born 1992 and 1993) were also invited to Monaco as part of the IAAF Schools' Activities project.
The Draw was made by IAAF Council Member Roberto Gesta De Melo, Consudatle President, under the scrutiny of IAAF General Secretary Pierre Weiss.
