Nine reigning World champions and 20 individual Olympic medallists from London will lead the US team at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow from 10-18 August.

Athletes seeking to defend their 2011 World titles are 110m hurdler Jason Richardson, triple jumper Christian Taylor, high jumper Jesse Williams, long jumper Dwight Phillips, decathlete Trey Hardee, 100m sprinter Carmelita Jeter, 1500m runner Jenny Simpson, 400m hurdler Lashinda Demus and long jumper Brittney Reese.

Along with the reigning World champions, four athletes enjoyed automatic selection after winning their respective event in the 2012 Diamond League. These athletes are Charonda Williams in the 200m, Dawn Harper in the 100m Hurdles, Chaunte Lowe in the High Jump and Reese Hoffa in the Shot Put.

While more than 20 athletes on the team own US records indoors or outdoors, the team also boasts five athletes with World records to their names: decathlete Ashton Eaton, 110m hurdler Aries Merritt, pole vaulter Jenn Suhr and sprinters Allyson Felix and Carmelita Jeter.

The team features a mix of experienced athletes with a large class of newcomers to the senior world stage with three athletes yet to celebrate their 20th birthdays: 17-year-old Mary Cain in the 1500m, 19-year-old Arman Hall in the 400m and 19-year-old Ajee Wilson in the 800m.
